Brandel Chamblee Claims Bryson DeChambeau is Not a Draw

Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee said on a podcast recently that LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau is not “must-watch TV.”

It’s a continuation of an attack on DeChambeau that Chamblee has seemed to had an effort at highlighting as he has questioned the validity of his YouTube channel’s subscriptions and his pull as a player.

On the Trey Wingo Podcast, Chamblee said of DeChambeau (via GolfWRX):

“Look, I think Bryson is a compelling watch. But the idea that he is ‘must watch TV’ is poor. I mean, nobody rushes to watch the TV when he’s leading a LIV event. The ratings…nobody cares to watch him then, they just don’t. But when he’s going head-to-head with Rory or Scottie Scheffler, they tune in. Are they tuning in for Bryson or Rory? Are they tuning into Bryson or Scottie? They watch to the tune of three, four, five million people when Rory and Scottie are playing in The Masters. It’s 50 to 100, 500,000 when Bryson, Rahm, DJ, and Brooks are going head-to-head. If it were a fight, they’d stop it.”

It’s no secret LIV has struggled to gain viewership, and it’s no secret that when DeChambeau has more eyes on him on TV, the Majors are being played. However, to downplay the pull that he has had in his own personal ventures is pretty crazy.

An argument could be made that many choose to watch LIV because of DeChambeau. His YouTube channel has accumulated 2.47 million subscribers, more than most brands that have been around for much longer in the YouTube space.

Chamblee said:

“No doubt that bots are generating a lot of those views.”

Instead of giving Bryson credit for what he’s done in the golf space, which is help grow the game in a respectable way, Chamblee has been overwhelmingly critical since DeChambeau made his move to LIV Golf.
