LIV Golf Set to Poach At Least ‘Two Recent PGA TOUR Winners’: Report

LIV Golf is set to poach “two recent TOUR winners,” along with other “rank and file names” who might be looking to make a move to the Saudi-backed golf league.

That is according to a new report from Golf Digest, which suggested that, with LIV Golf relegating several big names last year, it is now searching and negotiating with PGA TOUR players who might be looking to make the jump.

Sources told the publication that these names have been in talks with LIV Golf recently, but they are not “high-profile gets.”

Here’s exactly what was said:

“Sources tell Golf Digest that representatives of two recent tour winners are in discussions with LIV. Other rank-and-file names are angling for one last career payday. None of them is a high-profile get—Jon Rahm remains the only major star to defect in four years—but they are recognizable enough to trigger another cycle of ‘What is the state of the game?’ handwringing.”

It is not known what Golf Digest means exactly by “recent winners,” but going back to early July, there are a handful of names that seem like they could make the jump.

Keeping tabs on the fact that “none of them is a high-profile get,” it takes Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood out of the running.

However, that leaves the following players:

  • Brian Campell
  • Chris Gotterup
  • William Mouw
  • Ryan Gerard
  • Kurt Kitayama
  • Steven Fisk

It seems unlikely that any of the four, meaning Scheffler, Young, Rose, and Fleetwood, would ever leave the TOUR, given their loyalty. Young just expanded his fan base by at least ten times with his performance at the Ryder Cup, making him one of the notable names of recent winners.

LIV Golf lost several big names this past year due to relegation. This included Henrik Stenson, Andy Ogletree, Mito Pereira, Jubin Yang, Frderik Kjettrup, and Anthony Kim.

Ian Poulter managed to avoid relegation by roughly one shot, LIV Golf said.
