Women’s British Open – Fantasy Golf Picks

Published

on

The Ricoh Women’s British Open has a power-packed field and as I see it just about half the field has a better-than-even chance of hoisting the trophy come Sunday. There’s that much talent closing in on Woburn’s Marquess Course. So whether you’re playing the Ladies Dream Golf Pick-4 or the LPGA Fantasy game, your problems this week will begin with an abundance of talent.

Who to pick from the top of the field? If you choose carefully you can afford 2 top-priced players for the LPGA Fantasy game and you’re limited to 1 pick from Group 1 in the Ladies Dream Golf Pick-4 game, so who’s it going to be? You’re trying to pick the top-finisher in the group or the winner of the 40th Ricoh Women’s British Open.

I’ve already put Ariya Jutanugarn in the #1 spot in my power rankings and I do think this week at Woburn could be her time, but she’s not the only choice and perhaps not even the best. Jutanugarn tends to play feast-or-famine golf – she either finishes on the front page of the board or she misses the cut, and you never know which Ariya is going to show up at the 1st tee.

Group 1/20 Coin Options

Lydia Ko is certainly less risky, but so are Stacy Lewis, So Yeon Ryu, and Anna Nordqvist. Lewis looked like she’s finally found her game last week at the Merit Club and Ryu has never lost hers. Nordqvist had a near-miss at the US Women’s Open and she’ll come to Woburn looking for redemption. So if you don’t like the risks involved in Jutanugarn I see at least 3 other choices for players who could ably head your fantasy team in either game, or both.

Group 2/10 Coin Options

In the Ladies Dream Golf fantasy lineup you’ll have a broader set of choices, primarily from the 10 coin list if you’re also playing LPGA Fantasy Golf. The difference between the games is that you can pick only 1 player from Group 2 (or any group, for that matter) and because the salaries are lower if you limit your top picks to 2 players, you can add 4 from the 10 coin list and still have some slots in your lineup.

Tapping into my sleeper picks, here’s how I did it:

Group 3/5-10 Coin Options

As you move into the lower levels of the field you’re going to have some options in the Ladies Dream Golf Pick-4 game that you don’t have in LPGA Fantasy Golf. The Pick-4 options include all the players in the field whereas the LPGA fantasy game choices are limited to LPGA Tour members.

If you follow the Ladies European Tour, you already know that Nicole Broche Larsen and Beth Allen are both solid players who would make terrific additions to a fantasy team, and in many respects are stronger competitors than some of the lower-valued players in the LPGA 5 coin category. Give them a close look before you opt for a name just because it’s familiar.

Group 4/5 Coin Options

You may be thinking in practical terms – all you’re looking for from Group 4 players is somebody who’s likely to make the cut and play the weekend. Think again. If you look closely you’ll find a gem – Mel Reid – who showed some stunning golf last week at the International Crown. You’ll also find a couple of promising rookies – Megan Khang and Marianne Skarpnord – and an emerging Ladies European Tour star who’s heading to the Olympics on Demark’s golf team, Emily Pedersen.

In short, there are some rich choices down there in the 4th group in the Ladies Dream Golf Pick-4 contest. Don’t overlook the possibilities they hold for your team.

Good luck! Enjoy the 40th Ricoh Women’s British Open!
