Tiger Withdraws With Back Spasms

While most of us were sleeping here in the states, Tiger Woods withdrew from yet another tournament due to his back.

According to his agent, Mark Steinberg, the problem is not related to the nerve issues that have resulted in three surgeries.  Instead, this time it was merely back spasms causing him discomfort.

The announcement was made prior to Woods’ second round tee time.  During the first round, there was quite a bit of speculation of Tiger and his swing.  While he claimed “wasn’t in pain at all,” it appeared as if he was stiff and uncomfortable throughout the round.

Even if he had played the second round, it was likely Tiger was going to miss the 36-hole cut.  He shot a five-over 77 on Thursday and the cut line was currently sitting at Even.

So now here we are once again, wondering if or when we’ll see Tiger Woods play golf.  He’s scheduled to play the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club in two weeks.

“Spasms are a funny thing; I’m certainly no doctor, but they come and go,” Steinberg said.  “And again, the fact that he feels as though it’s not the nerve pain, that’s very encouraging for him. He’s had spasms before.”

Some have pointed out that Woods flew commercial for the first time in ten years to Dubai, speculating that could have aggravated his back.

Nonetheless, it’s a setback in yet another comeback attempt for the 14-time Major winner.
