Tournament Preview: The 2013 RBC Heritage

With all the Masters excitement is behind us, players now have three tournaments left to get in shape before the next major (THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass on May 9).
The RBC Heritage has long been the tournament that immediately follows the Masters on the PGA TOUR schedule, with all the buildup and heartache from Augusta naturally settling into the calmness at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, SC.
As of Monday of this week, 14 of the 34 inside the top 25 on the final leaderboard at Augusta National are scheduled to compete in the 2013 RBC Heritage. The 7,101 yard track plays as a Par 71 and is deemed by some to be a shot-maker’s paradise. Coming off the tee with a strong 2nd shot position can definitely shape approach shots that will most likely lead to birdies and eagles.
Because the track is short and plays as a Par 71, distance off the tee is mostly irrelevant. Harbour Town ranks inside the top-10 shortest courses in average driving distance every year. Last year, it was fourth at 277.8 yards and the fairways-hit percentage of 64.94 was its lowest in recorded history.
One player to follow closely this week will be Brandt Snedeker. Brandt was absent from TOUR for a while since his win with a rib injury. He played poorly and struggled to find his swing when he first returned, but Sneds found his grove again at Augusta. We like him this week because he’s consistently a solid ball striker and his game should fare well on this short course.

The course will see some rain this week, but not until the weekend. Temperatures should remain in the mid-70s and Sunday is calling for the best weather of the tournament.
