Heading into Masters week, there will be a lot of eyes on the top players in the world, as they look to wear the green jacket at the end of the week. Rory McIlroy, current no. 2 golfer in the world, is already making big waves off the course heading into Augusta.

It was announced yesterday that McIlroy signed a massive 10-year extension to remain as Nike’s main golf endorser. This is a huge win for Nike’s golf brand since many of their endorsers for golf, Charl Schwartzel for example, have left the company for other opportunities. This is mostly due to Nike’s recent decision to remove itself from the club making business.

While they are not making clubs anymore, Nike still has a strong hold on the golf apparel market, which McIlroy will be sporting for the next 10 years. While the future of the company’s golf conquests seemed unknown a few months ago, the company looks to be in fine shape after signing not only McIlroy, but also top players like Jason Day and Thomas Pieters, to wear Nike shoes and clothes on the course.

McIlroy has served as the face of the Nike brand ever since the company replaced former top endorser Tiger Woods. This new contract will keep Rory in this role for years to come, something he seems quite excited about. “I’ve loved this company since I was a kid,” McIlroy said. “I’m really happy to continue this journey with Nike.”

Now that this new deal is in place, it will be interesting to see if McIlroy will sport any unique gear at Augusta this upcoming week. Last year, for example, he wore Nike shoes that had a Kobe Bryant theme to them. Between himself, Day and Pieters, I’m sure Nike will have some type of unique apparel for their endorsers to show off in one of golf’s biggest weeks.

With his off-course matters now resolved, McIlroy should be ready to go out and compete at the Masters this week and it will be interesting to see if he is able to win his first green jacket, capturing the golf grand slam.
