Tiger Woods to Miss Rest of PGA TOUR Season
What was expected to be a strong, rebound year for Tiger Woods has now turned to disaster. After announcing he had fully recovered from his back surgery a few months ago, Tiger re-aggravated his injury and will be shut down for the rest of this PGA TOUR season.
Woods announced the surgery on his Twitter through a statement that detailed his surgery. This is the fourth surgery that Woods has undergone on his back and the hope is that this will alleviate some of the pain in his back and legs. Surgery of this sort typically keeps a player out for around 6 months, pushing the earliest appearance Tiger can make to October.
This comes as a surprise to many, as it seemed that Tiger was primed to return to the course sooner rather than later. Friend and golf analyst, Notah Begay, even stated during the Masters that he was expecting Woods to return sometime in the month of May. Tiger was also spotted hitting some balls just two days ago, fueling the speculation that he was ready to return.

This has been extremely disappointing comeback attempt for Tiger but he seems like he is still holding onto his optimism. “The surgery went well, and I’m optimistic this will relieve my back spasms and pain,” Woods said in his statement. “When healed, I look forward to getting back to a normal life, playing with my kids, competing in professional golf and living without the pain I have been battling so long.”
Tiger made his first official appearance this season at the Farmer’s Insurance Open, where he missed the cut. Following his first event, Tiger was forced to withdraw in the first round at Dubai. That had been Woods’ first full event played on the Tour since the Wyndham Championship in 2015 after missing the entire 2016 season.
Now that Woods has had yet another setback and will have to miss another PGA TOUR season, it will be interesting to see what he has left in the tank, if anything, once he is finally healthy.
