FanDuel Fantasy Golf Picks and Predictions – 2017 Wyndham Championship

2017 Wyndham Championship FanDuel Fantasy Preview
Another big name has etched his name in history for his first major last week as Justin Thomas took home the PGA Championship crown after a gutsy Sunday showing.
The PGA will now inch closer to the playoffs with the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. The Tour will be staying in North Carolina as they tee it up in Greensboro with the course setting up at 7,127 yards over a par-70 scorecard. The tournament has been a long standing part of the PGA TOUR schedule, first beginning in 1938, and has been played annually at Sedgefield, a Donald Ross designed course, since 2008.
Sam Snead was the first victor in the inaugural season and went on to take home eight total wins in the event, easily the most here as the only other player earning more than a pair was Davis Love III with three (1992, 2006, 2015).
Another seven golfers have won here twice, the most recent being Rocco Mediate (1993, 2002), but Si Woo Kim will not have the opportunity to join them after last year’s victory as he deals with injury. His win was one of the best in this long tenured outing, posting an unbelievable score of 21 shots under par over the week and matching Carl Petterson for the tournament record with an aggregate score of 259 behind a second round of 60. He was the sixth international player in the past 12 years in Greensboro to top the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon as he outpaced the runner-up, Luke Donald, by five strokes.

Another international presence will be coming in as the favorite this week with Henrik Stenson joining the field after a solid 13th-place in the PGA Championship.
Also looking to continue his strong play from the final major of the year will be Official World Golf Ranked No. 24 player Kevin Kisner who had at least a share of the lead in each of the first three days at Quail Hollow before finishing in seventh.
No other top-25 player will be starting here, but the likes of No. 37 Bill Haas, No. 59 Webb Simpson, No. 34 Jason Dufner, No. 43 Ryan Moore, No. 101 Bud Cauley, and No. 95 Keegan Bradley are all getting nice odds. There will also be a few players who earn their way into the playoffs with a strong week and FedExCup ranked No. 126 Cameron Tringale, No. 127 Sam Saunders, and No. 128 Ryan Palmer are the closest to the top-125 needed to play in The Northern Trust.
Fanduel is a great outlet to really take a closer look at all the players in the PGA TOUR and have fun following your golfers as the play over the week. The following players are a few that we think have a great chance at putting up some impressive scoring in Greensboro this week while allowing you to stay under the given salary cap.
If anyone tagged along on to our FanDuel suggestions last week they saw all eight golfers make it to the weekend with five of them earning a top-13 finish.
2017 Wyndham Championship FanDuel Picks
Bill Haas – $9,300 – Haas does not have the best numbers over his last four starts, doing no better than 36th in that time, but that stretch included two majors and a WGC event. His previous four outings saw him post four straight top-25s, though, and he was successful at the U.S. Open with a fifth-place.
His experience and success on this course needs to be taken into account also as he has made the cut in seven of the past eight installments while doing no worse than 22nd in the last five years. Haas nearly won it in 2014, posting a 16-under score and coming in as the runner-up behind Camilo Villegas.
This 35-year-old has earned much of his dough this year with solid play around the greens, gaining 0.477 strokes (6th on TOUR) behind 62.50% scrambling (24th on TOUR); leading to the 16th best scoring average (69.904). Haas is a strong anchor for any lineup and will likely put together another great week at the Wyndham Championship.

Webb Simpson – $8,800 – Simpson is a four time winner on the PGA TOUR and he has been putting together a nice campaign in 2017, ranking 37th in the FedExCup standings and getting into the top-25 at eight of his 23 events (35%). Just like Haas, Simpson has made easy work of Sedgefield Country Club with seven consecutive visits to the weekend, five being in the top-11, and was the winner back in 2011 with an 18-under score.
He is one of the best short game players in the world and this season is ranked eighth in strokes gained around the green (0.468) with 65.02% scrambling (6th on TOUR) and 63.85% sand save (5th on TOUR). With this being a par-70 course, there are a few more opportunities on par fours, and Simpson has a scoring average of 3.99 (5th on TOUR) on such holes.
One way to get some points on FanDuel is by a player bouncing back with a birdie after a bogey, and Simpson is one of the best out there, doing so 25% of the time (9th on TOUR), and really driving home why he is a no-brainer this week.
Bud Cauley – $7,900 – Cauley is set firmly into the playoff mix for the upcoming weeks, coming to Greensboro ranked 58th, his best showing since his rookie season in 2012. Although he is somewhat of a wildcard because of his nine missed cuts this season, he knows how to move up the leaderboard when playing on the weekend, posting five top-10s and comes in fresh off of solid performances at both the John Deere Classic (12th) and PGA Championship (33rd).
At his price, Cauley is the 10th-highest price player, but he has two top-10s here over his last four starts and is a tremendous high-ceiling choice.
Chez Reavie – $7,500 – Reavie may have missed the cut here in each of his past three attempts, but he is in the midst of by far his best season since 2008 and comes into the week with 10 cuts made in his last 11 tournaments. He also should be drawing plenty of confidence with his play in the major events of late, finishing 16th at the U.S. open and playing in the final few groups at the PGA Championship, eventually taking home a 22nd-place.
Reavie has no issues keeping his drives in the fairway (71.66% driving accuracy, 5th on TOUR) and has converted those nice drives into the best proximity to the hole (32’8”) on the entire tour. As a result he is gaining 0.522 strokes with his approach to the green (23rd on TOUR) and is in the top-30 in both par three (2.98, 8th on TOUR) and par four (4.01, 26th on TOUR) holes.
We really like Reavie to not only snap his missed cut streak at this course, but also get his fourth top-10 of the year.

Lucas Glover – $7,200 – At 37-years-old, Glover is having somewhat of a resurgence with his career, after five straight years outside of the top-95 in the FedExCup standings, he currently sits in 54th behind 17-of-22 cuts made (77%) and four top-10s. He showed that he has found his stroke again with gutsy efforts against the tough fields at THE PLAYERS (6th) and last week in the PGA Championship (33rd).
Despite playing pretty poorly in recent years, Glover managed to do well in Greensboro with an 18th and 22nd in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The key to his success has been his strength off the tee (0.528 strokes gained, 23rd on TOUR) and turning that into a green in regulation (69.67%, 5th on TOUR). Glover is getting a birdie of better on 18.32% of his attempts on par fours (25th on TOUR) and will look to continue his comeback season this week.
Robert Streb – $6,900 – Streb has not been able to harness the success that he had in 2015 when he finished sixth in the FedExCup, but he still shows glimpses and had a runner-up at the Greenbrier Classic while making six of his past eight cuts. Like a few others already mentioned, Streb’s strongest asset has been his work around the green where he is gaining 0.274 strokes (29th on TOUR) and used that to make the cut in this tournament over each of his last three starts; posting an 18th in 2014 as his best showing.
Streb may be a volatile pick from week-to-week, and there is a lot of players in this range that seem safer (i.e. Streelman, Campbell, Schniederjans), but Streb can serve as a nice pivot and provide a ceiling of winning the event.
James Hahn – $6,900 – Hahn is somewhat of a must play on my board at this price. Since the start of the 2015 season he is 53-of-78 in making it to the weekend (68%) with 18 top-25 finishes. He is actually lower in the FedExCup standings this year (51st) than his finishes in both 2015 (35th) and 2016 (44th), but seems to be playing better overall with his most top-10s (4) and top-25s (8) in his five year career.
In Hahn’s last eight times out, he has managed to get five top-20s and really showed he can play with the best last week, posting an even score over the four rounds and tying for 13th. There is no one part of his game that is elite for the 35-year-old, but he is solid across the board with his driving accuracy (63.40%, 64th on TOUR), scrambling (61.06%, 45th on TOUR), and he ranked sixth in strokes gained with his approach to the green (5.670) last week at Quail Hollow.
Hahn is a player we really see performing well at Sedgefield while giving you some salary relief at a sub $7,000 price tag.

Richy Werenski- $5,500 – Werenski is a hot hand right now who comes in at a very low price. The youngster out of Georgia Tech has quietly put together a very solid rookie season and has seen some of his best results come in his most recent outings.
After missing five consecutive cuts, Werenski has pulled it together and played his way to four straight weeks of making it to the weekend; capping it off with a runner-up in the Barracuda Championship. In the previous three weeks, the 25-year-old combined to go 33 shots better than par and had rounds in the 60s in 7-of-12 attempts.
A lot of his ability to get nice results over his last three events has come off the tee where he has ranked in the top-25 in strokes gained with each of those starts. His performance in the Barracuda Championship pushed him into the top-125 of the FedExCup and we expect him to stay there with a fifth straight made cut.
