In the next week, the elite members of the PGA TOUR will all ascend on Augusta National to compete for a Green Jacket at the Masters. And one name that had all but disappeared from that elite tier is coming in looking like the favorite.

It has been a long, up and down road for Bubba Watson. On the top of the golf world a few years ago, Watson has played with wild inconsistency with the only constant being his long driving ability. But after winning the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play event this past weekend, Watson may be putting together is the best stretch of golf in a long time.

Watson went into the event with some low expectations, especially when he was tasked with playing young phenom Justin Thomas in the semi-finals of the event. Watson even remarked that the spectators should remember that he had the lead at one point in the match. They certainly remembered, however, as Watson defeated Thomas 3 and 2 to win the match, then defeated Kevin Kisner in the finals after winning six of the first seven holes.

The victory marks the second World Golf Championship event that Watson has won in his career to go along with two major championships. Watson also won at the Riviera a few weeks ago, making this his second win in his past four starts. That has propelled him from 117th on the World Golf Rankings list last year, all the way up to 21st and to a third-place spot in the FedExCup standings.

Bubba is certainly honored to have won such an event. “It’s crazy to think about it,” Watson said. “I’ve got two World Golf Championships, and two majors. It’s unbelievable to think about that, giving my mom a hug. Six years old, having one golf club for a year, no lessons. I can sit here and make up stories all day, but it’s absolutely remarkable that I’m able to life a trophy like this.”

With such a hot stretch, many are pegging Watson as the leader to claim a remarkable third Green Jacket. But in a field with all of golf’s top talent, winning again will be no easy task for the lefty.
