Emotional Win for Thomas at Firestone
At the beginning of the day it looked like there was going to be an exciting race between some of the stars of the game. However, while others faltered and imploded, Justin Thomas secured his third win of the season and his ninth on the PGA TOUR with his grandfather, grandmother, father and mother watching.

The Bridgestone Invitational is contested in Akron, Ohio.
Rory McIlroy was in the final group with Thomas, however he struggled all day. He began to falter when he made three bogeys in a row after missing the fairway on each hole. He was 57th in strokes gained in approach to the green, 21st tee to green and only hit three fairways and seven greens in regulation on Sunday on his way to a three over final round of 73 to finish T6.
Jason Day was another player struggling off the tee. Day was 42nd in strokes gained off the tee and only hit five fairways on Sunday. After a picture-perfect birdie putt on the tenth hole followed by two more birdies Day closed the gap between him and Thomas to two shots.
Then two costly lip-outs on 13 and 14 lead to back to back bogeys. Day imploded on the back nine after a double on 16 when he found the water with his third shot on the par five followed by another bogey on 17. Jason finished the week at seven under after a final round of three over.
Thomas dominated the field throughout the week. His steady and consistent play lead him to another win. He was first in strokes gained in approach to the green, T2 in greens in regulation, 4th in putting and tee to green and T11 in driving accuracy. A one under par final round was enough to secure a four shot victory.

Dustin Johnson started the final round at four under and ten strokes behind Thomas. He finished at 10 under and T3 after a six under final round. Johnson went out in a blistering six under 29. However, he cooled off on the back nine and could only manage even par on the back nine.
Johnson hit 9/14 fairways and 13/18 greens in regulation. “It was a really good day. Obviously I played very good golf all day long,” said Johnson. However, Johnson said that he still felt a little bit of frustration after missed short putts on 17 and 18. “I walked off the course a little frustrated but anytime you shoot 64 around here it’s a good score.”
DJ hopes to carry this momentum into next week at the PGA Championship, “I expect to play well, but I want to put myself in a position where I got a chance to win on Sunday.”
