Fowler Earns a Spot at the WGC-Cadillac Championship
Perhaps Rickie Fowler should take coach Butch Harmon out for a steak dinner after his 3rd place finish at the Match Play Championship last week.
Today Fowler received a better prize than the $630,000 in prize money and the 299 FedExCup points he earned last week. The young face of Cobra Puma Golf, already a superstar in the golf world, has now shifted into the ranks of the Top 50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (38th from 56th) which also makes him eligible to play in the next WGC event on March 6th.
When asked about his current play and new coach, Rickie said, “I’ve been telling people tee to green I’ve been awesome. The things with Butch that we’ve been working on have been paying off,” Fowler said. “Just haven’t really been making any putts and getting the balls up and down when we need to. This week I was able to accomplish a few things with the putter and the short game.”
In 2011, Fowler finished eighth in the WGC Cadillac but fell to 35th last year after carding a 78 in his final round. There is no doubt that the Harmon sessions are paying off, as Rickie looks more comfortable from tee to green, and his approach shots have been nothing less than stellar.

Currently, Fowler is ranked 49th in FedExCup points (1,531 behind leader Jimmy Walker), with an overall scoring average of 71.793. Rickie did however miss three consecutive cuts leading up his 3rd place finish, but perhaps this was the tournament finish he needed to boost his confidence leading into the Honda Classic and eventually the WGC-Cadillac Championship. Either way, Fowler is heating things up with his new swing, so look for plenty of excitement to come from the flashy young star.
