April Fools’: Tony Finau and Nike Collab on Fake Signature Shoe
The most elaborate April Fools’ golf prank of 2019 might have to go to Tony Finau and Nike.
The premise of the prank is centered around Tony Finau creating his own signature golf shoe, which is intended to look ridiculous. And to accomplish that, Finau and Nike spent months designing the pseudo shoe.
On top of the time that went into making the shoe, Nike also put out a full four-minute video that is an ironic look into how the signature shoe was created. From the event that spawned the idea – Finau injuring himself celebrating during the Masters Par-3 contest last year – to the idea of creating the most comfortable golf shoe ever, the video chronicles the entire process of the joke.

As for the shoe itself, Finau did show it off in the video as the “Finau1” and man is it an eyesore.

The creation of the shoe is obviously a joke but there have been some who have asked if Finau will actually wear the fake shoe in competition. Nike is steadfast in denying that Finau will wear the shoe at The Masters in just two weeks but haven’t denied he could wear them at another event. Perhaps showing them off during a practice round or pro-am could be in the mix.
While it’s not a haha funny type of joke for April Fool’s Day, the gag creation of the shoe is a pretty funny process in itself. And even if the shoes are fake, I would join many fans in saying that I hope Finau rocks the Finau1 in the future, just for kicks.
