Brooks Koepka Broke the Shot Tracer at the PGA Champ
Brooks Koepka couldn’t do much wrong in route to his PGA Championship win at Bethpage Black this week. But if there’s anything that someone could complain about, Koepka might have broken one of golf’s coolest pieces of technology.
Koepka was a delight to watch this weekend, as he set Bethpage Black on fire.
He was the leader throughout the entire tournament and just looked like he was on another level from his competition. Well, that’s if you ignore his Sunday performance when he shot four over and almost gave up the lead at the end. Considering the weather on Sunday, I’d say that’s completely understandable.
But if you want to criticize Koepka for anything, it should be for what he did to the Shot Tracer on CBS.
Shot Tracer is one of the best pieces of technology that golf fans get to enjoy because it shows you exactly where the ball is going without having to wait for a cameraman to track it down. But Koepka appeared to break this tool live during round three.

Hitting an iron from the fairway, Koepka got a lot of the ground, which caused a big divot to go flying into the air. And instead of following Koepka’s ball like it was supposed to, it followed the divot, taking a hard right after the shot.
You can hear the commentators immediately confused by what they were watching. CBS’s Gary McCord genuinely thought the ball may have went that way. “Woah, woah, woah, woah,” he said. “TopTracer either broke or… well, that turned out nice.” The best part might be that despite all of the confusion, Koepka hit a remarkable shot that led to a birdie.
Hopefully, all kinks will be worked out in time for the U.S. Open so we can see if Koepka’s shots stack up in his pursuit of another major.
