PGA TOUR: Bermuda Championship Added To The 2019-2020 Schedule
The Caribbean Islands are known for their beauty, crystal clear waters, and the ultimate destination for relaxation. Now, it will be hoping to add premier golf destination to that resume.
The PGA TOUR announced today that they will be holding the Bermuda Championship as an annual event at the Port Royal Golf Course. The event is set to take place October 31-November 3 this year, taking the place of the Sanderson Farms Open, which has been moved up to September on the schedule. It’s also set to be played opposite the WGC-HSBC Championship in Shanghai.
The PGA TOUR is incredibly excited about the opportunity to get their pros to the island.
“We are excited to add the Bermuda Championship to the PGA TOUR beginning next season,” said Ty Votaw, Executive Vice President, International for the PGA TOUR. “Bermuda is an appealing year-round destination, and the players will love visiting in the fall, plus we will be hosted by an outstanding golf course. It promises to be a wonderful opportunity to showcase Bermuda – a beautiful island destination that embodies genuine hospitality – to the world.”
Even though it is being played opposite a World Golf Championship event, it is still sure to attract some of the best players on the PGA TOUR. The purse for the event is set to be a whopping $3 million. On top of that, the event will offer up to 300 FedExCup points. So anyone not playing in Shanghai will surely want to be in Bermuda for this event.
For the PGA TOUR, this also offers a great opportunity to bring professional golf back to Bermuda. The last time that there was an annual event on the island was the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which was in action from 2007-2014. That event, however, only included the year’s four major champions, so having an event with upwards of 120 players is a big step up.
The event is certainly a long way off this year but is sure to bring a lot of excitement. So if you haven’t booked your vacation yet, consider heading to Bermuda for this event kickoff and take in some golf with a piña colada.
