Jordan Spieth Will Win The US Open, Change My Mind

It’s no secret that Jordan Spieth has been going through a less than ideal, not great, really terrible stretch in his career. But the media really needs to take it easy with all their overreactions every time he puts up a bad score on Sunday at the who the hell cares invitational. This is the same guy who’s only one leg short of a career grand slam we’re talking about. Even the greatest golfer of all time, and yes I’m talking about one Eldrick Woods, went through some struggles when he was going through changes in his swing.

In a short clip in which he was talking to Barstool Sports’ Fore Play hosts at the PGA Championship, Spieth was asked about the difficulty of the course and said, “I’m still not in great control of the ball, so it’s tough when you get thrown out in the fire like that, but it’s getting there.” Spieth’s game even at its peak doesn’t match up fantastically with Bethpage anyway, so what mattered was what he did so well that weekend. His short game and his putting were back on track, which he’s struggled to get back to form. And they weren’t just back on track, Spieth finished leading the field at the PGA Championship in strokes gained putting.

As well as his great progress at the PGA, Spieth has slowly but surely started to make some noise in his past few appearances. In his past 3 appearances, he’s been T3, T8, and most recently had a T7 at The Memorial. He’s continuing to make progress and could sneakily give Tiger a run for his money at the best comeback this year. Probably not, but you get what I’m saying. Spieth has the opportunity to get right back to the top of the PGA hype train that he was on during that legendary run he had in 2015 where he won the Masters, US Open, and FedEx Cup.

This also isn’t a wild take that Spieth will win the US Open at Pebble because of his history there. He won the 2017 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by 4 strokes and played the last 28 holes bogey free. And on the last day of the tourney, he putted for birdied every hole but one, which is exactly what you need to do in a US Open format. His caddy Michael Greller, one of my favorites on tour, told him to “keep playing boring golf.” Spieth has shown he can both score low, as well as play “boring golf” at Pebble Beach, which is why he has a great shot at winning (He’s at 14-1 odds if you want to capitalize and make some cash, unless you don’t like free money of course).

I could not be more excited to see Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods, and Justin Rose tee it up in the featured group on Thursday and watch Spieth’s comeback to the spotlight come full circle.
