Steve Williams Comes Out of Retirement for Second Straight Major

Coming out of retirement to give it another shot at championship is something that as sports fans we are used to seeing. All-time greats like Brett Favre, Roger Clemens and Michael Jordan have all come back from retirement for another crack at glory.

Now for the second Major in a row legendary caddie Steve Williams has come out of retirement to loop for Jason Day.

Williams, who most famously caddied for Tiger Woods through most of his prime, also found success on the bag with Adam Scott from 2011 to 2017. This included Scott’s 2013 Masters win.

Besides a few starts here and there including looping LPGA Major winner Danielle Kang, Williams has been retired from golf. When Jason Day pulled Williams out of retirement once again for the 2019 U.S. Open it wasn’t clear if this was a onetime deal or something more.

With Williams on the bag for the 2019 U.S. Open Jason Day shot 70,73,70, 69 for a tournament score of -2. This was good for a T21 finish.

Jason notched is only major victory in 2015 at Whistling Straits but Day has not won on Tour since the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open. If Day is looking to regain the world number one ranking (achieved September 2015) then there is no better caddie available than Steve Williams.
