One of the purest ways to enjoy golf is to walk the course.  Whether it’s your local muni that just cracks 5,000 yards or Bethpage’s Black Course measuring in just under 7,500 yards, walking from tee to green provides you with a unique appreciation for the course that you’ll never get while riding a cart.

And no matter whether you’re carrying your own bag or employing the support of a caddie, you’re going to need a bag that’s going to help everything you need, without adding a bunch of unnecessary weight that’ll weigh you down and wear you out.

STITCH Golf is best known for their premium headcovers, which are used by more than 90 players on Tour, including guys like current World No. 1 ranked Brooks Koepka and former FedEx Cup champion Justin Thomas, their new SL2 might be the perfect walking bag that elevates your golfing experience.

Immediately noticeable is the vibrant color options that the SL2 comes in.  Whether you choose the Navy or Light Blue (with a matching rain hood), the SL2 demands attention while remaining classy.  And in order to ensure that your bag remains in great shape, each SL2 is made with STITCH Touring Fabric, a proprietary material that has the strength of leather, but is more durable, lightweight and water resistant.

And despite using this really high quality material, the SL2 only weighs 4 pounds.  In case you don’t realize how light that is, here’s a few other things that roughly weigh 64 ounces: four (4) dozen golf balls, three (3) Chipotle burritos or one (1) pair of golf shoes.  In other words, the SL2 is really lightweight, which is a huge plus considering you want to conserve energy for playing golf (instead of playing pack mule for the next 4 hours).

Additionally, the SL2 comes equipped with two strap options: a backpack-style, double strap and the more traditional single strap.  So no matter whether you prefer the comfort of a double straps or, instead, prefer lightened the load on your back and shoulders with the single strap, the SL2 allows you to mix-and-match depending on your mood.  Additionally, switching straps is made really easy with the help of pinch-clips.

As far as storage space, starting at the top, the SL2 features a four-way divider that goes all the way to the bottom (keeping each section separate) and fits all fourteen clubs with leftover space for an oversized putter grip and alignment sticks.  Indeed, despite having a driver and two fairway woods in the top slot, my putter fit with its oversized grip and two (2) alignment sticks all in the same slot.  Additionally, I occasionally carried a fifteenth club—a utility iron—and never had an issue with multiple clubs getting pulled out.

In addition to having plenty of space for clubs, the SL2 also features one (1) full-length pocket and a second, smaller side pocket that’s insulated, which was perfect for holding a couple bottles of water (see: beer) while walking the course in between visits from the cart girl.  In particular, I was able to fit a dozen golf balls in the side pocket, along with a ditty bag that holds a portable charger, my ShotScope watch, charger and extra club sensors and car keys.

On the main handle I was able to velcro two (2) gloves, and the side mounted D-ring easily held my GPS rangefinder.  Finally, on each pocket is a small zipper enclosure (one lined with velour), which were perfect for storing some tees, a ball marker, divot tool, my cell phone and wallet.  In sum, the SL2 had ample space to fit everything I regularly carry with me on the golf course; provided, however, I’d recommend leaving the rain hood at home or in the trunk of your car for when it’s definitely going to rain.  Storage space can definitely get a little tight if you regularly carry a rain hood in one of the side pockets.

On the course, the SL2 continues to impress.  While most of the weight comes from everything you’re carrying (a full set of clubs adds almost 15 pounds of weight, plus balls and other accessories) the SL2 still felt noticeably lightweight while trekking around the course in August summer heat.  While I primarily tested with the backstraps equipped, the SL2 features strategically placed handles at the top and base to help making carry super easy to stabilize the bag while walking and pulling it in and out of carry.

When you were ready to set the bag down, the base is super stable and easily settles down to extend the legs.  And in the event you’re riding, the legs also can be velcroed in to keep the legs from extending and getting banged around in the back of the cart.

In sum, the SL2 is a top-tier, lightweight carry bag.  The combination of premium materials and a lightweight design guarantee that you’ll be using the SL2 for a long time, and be especially grateful when you (or your caddie) are walking the course.  While there’s not an overwhelming amount of storage, STITCH’s design is certainly for the weekend warrior who wants to focus on their game and leave the excess baggage at home.
