It’s been pretty public with how much damage has struck the Bahamas from Hurricane Dorian rolling through earlier this week and there is much work to be done to help repair islands. And one PGA TOUR pro is ready to do what he can.

We talked about how the island of Abaco was hit hard by Dorian and how the Abaco Club, one of the stops on the Korn Ferry Tour, has already raised nearly $1 million to help with the recovery effort, with the hopes of tripling that number. Others in the golf world are also hoping to do what they can to help relief efforts in the Bahamas, including Justin Thomas.

Thomas is one of the top players on the PGA TOUR and he actually spends a lot of time in the Bahamas. Whether it’s hanging out with his buddies on one of their wild vacations or just taking some time off to get away from the hustle and bustle of real life, the Bahamas are Thomas’ second home. And he’s ready to do what he can to make sure that the islands are taken care of.

Thomas posted on Instagram how he will be trying to fund the recovery efforts in the storm-stricken areas. Thomas has already made an undisclosed donation to help with the reparations of the community but also pledged in the post that he will donate $1,000 for every birdie that he makes for the remainder of the 2019 year. He further challenged his colleagues to do the same.

And if you don’t think that would be a lot of money, think again. According to the PGA TOUR stats, Thomas has already rolled in 330 birdies this season in 72 appearances. The average is a little over four birdies per round so there’s a lot of potential for big money to head to relief efforts. And if others get involved, that’s a lot of money heading to the Caribbean.

No one as of yet has promised to match the pledge that Thomas made but we commend him for taking the initiative. And hopefully with the money Thomas and others raise, the Bahamas will recover and become a thriving community again.
