SCARE: Two Solheim Cup Golfers Lose Clubs On Flight
For those of us that are missing out on the Ryder Cup this year, one alternative could be to tune into the Solheim Cup, which if you don’t know is the women’s version of the Ryder Cup. But that tournament isn’t off to the best start for two of the players.
With the tournament set to kick off in Edinburgh this Friday, all of the players are converging in the UK to prepare for what might be their biggest event of the year. But two players, Jodi Ewart Shadoff of the European squad and Angel Yin of the United States arrived on their flight without their bags. It’s even crazier when you find out that both golfers flew in from Dublin to Edinburgh when they lost their bags.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a huge deal because equipment carriers are usually able to replace missing equipment for their players. This became more complicated for Shadoff and Yin, however, because they use mixed bags of equipment so it’s harder to get all of those different brands replaced quickly, especially during the biggest women’s group competition of the year.

It’s even crazier for these two players considering that Shadoff notified the flight attendant that her clubs weren’t loaded onto the plane. “She looked out the window in Dublin and saw that her golf clubs weren’t getting loaded onto the plane,” Shadoff’s husband Adma, told GolfDigest.com. “She told the flight attendant and they assured her that they’d be loaded.”
Luckily for both Yin and Shadoff, both of their clubs were located and returned to them Tuesday morning, well ahead of when they are expected to tee off later this week. Apparently the clubs were on the flight the whole time but got lost somewhere in the transition to baggage claim so it was a simple fix that put both players’ minds at ease.
If those clubs weren’t found, however, we could have been looking at a huge debacle for the women’s golf season so many are taking sighs of relief today. The Solheim Cup will start on Friday for anyone interested as the United States will look to build on its 10-5 career record against the Europeans.
