SAFEWAY OPEN: Mickelson Teaming Up With Steph Curry for Pro AM
Fall golf is awesome for most of us. The leaves are changing, the air is cool and crisp, its ¼ season and apple cider with fireball replaces beers at the turn (well for me it does anyway). What it doesn’t do is deliver on much must watch Pro golf. After the tour championship the PGA kind of steps aside to make way for the NFL to take over our Sunday.
What better way to draw some attention then snagging an athlete that’s more popular than Phil Mickelson? That’s what happened for this week at the Safeway Open. Well… kind of. Steph Curry (you know, that NBA star who can shoot the ball from anywhere and it still finds a way to go in) is set to be Phil Mickelson’s partner at the pro-am.
Its no secret that Curry loves to play golf and with his recent golf clothing line officially dropping recently, it’s a no brainer that he is playing in a PGA Pro-Am. Steph even appears to be getting into golf shape with some patented Mickelson calf raises.
Hmm, almost @Stephencurry30. It’s a very technical move, best if I show you in person. I’ll be in Napa next week if you really want #CalvesLikeAdonis https://t.co/93uHBH3qDJ

According to one source who spoke with the San Francisco Chronicle, Steph was offered a sponsor’s exemption to compete in the actual event, but he declined. Curry has competed in PGA events in the past with a sponsor’s exemption.
He missed the cut both times, but this is his passion, not his profession (for now). Phil and Steph are scheduled to tee off at 2:40 P.M. ET ahead of Justin Thomas and Tony Romo.
