With everything that happens in the world every day, the destruction of Hurricane Dorian a few weeks ago seems like a distant memory. But for those affected by the storm, the return to normal is just beginning and PGA TOUR mainstays are hoping to help speed up that process.

To former PGA TOUR stars, Justin Leonard and Brad Faxon announced this week that they have set up a pro-am that will be played at the Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. All proceeds and funds raised at the event will go directly to those in the Bahamas that are in need of various supplies. There’s also a page to the event dedicated to taking donations.

The pro-am already has a great cast of players that have committed to playing in the event on October 8th. The list of participants includes Justin Thomas, Jack Nicklaus, Jessica Korda, Ernie Els, Greg Norman, Lucas Glover, Billy Horschel, and Charl Schwartzel among others. And there is still time to add a few other players to the list depending on their schedules.

The actual event didn’t come to the brain of Leonard and Faxon on its own, however, as it was actually the idea of local Floridian and frequent vacationer to the Bahamas, Beth Warren. Warren was in a group text message with some women talking about the plight of the Bahamians she knows and one of the women that happened to be in the chat was Justin Leornard’s wife. And everything just took off from there.

“We made friends with so many of the Bahamians that it was truly our second home,” said Warren. “Our souls were there. That was the happy place.” That happy place has been wrecked by the storm, however, and Warren is happy to help in anyway she can. “There’s so much they need before they can even think about rebuilding,” Warren said. “There is a lot of need and a lot of confusion down there.”

The efforts of this event won’t be enough to rebuild the Bahamas by itself but every little bit helps. If you feel so inclined, feel free to visit the event’s official website to learn more about the pro-am and contribute anything you wish to help all recovery efforts.
