Larry David And Phil Mickelson Share Shots On Phireside

One of the most entertaining things to come out of the golf season this year was the introduction of the world to Phil Mickelson’s new talk show “Phireside with Phil.” And this week, Phil brought on the perfect guest.

For weeks, Mickelson has been teasing that he would have comedic legend Larry David on the show for a chat and fans have been eagerly waiting to see if it would actually happen. Lefty just posted the sit down he had with David and it did not disappoint. The two played a round of golf before sitting down for the interview and that’s really where the fun began.

As is true for almost any interview, the two had to feel each other out a bit before they could start throwing some shade at each other. It all started when David decided to go after Phil for wearing his Hall of Fame jacket during the interview and not one of those “silly” green jackets that are handed out at the Masters. Phil had the perfect response for this one, asking David which of the three he was expecting him to wear.

Phil got another jab in there, poking fun at some of David’s Emmy Awards but it was David who had the last laugh. Larry asked Phil if he would be playing in the U.S. Open this year or if he’d be going to graduation again. Phil responded yes, he’d be at Winged Foot, taking all the bait David needed to hit him back.

“Ah, Winged Foot!” David said. “Is that so? Winged Foot! Ah. Yes, I recall a previous Open there. Maybe 12 or 13 years ago. 2006…I remember on the 18th hole as you were teeing off, I remember you took a driver out of your bag. I must say, I was thinking to myself, ‘What could possibly be going through that idiot’s mind?’” To that, all Phil could say was that he didn’t know what was going through his mind either.

The whole episode is definitely worth listening to, as David also talks about how he had a great young golfing career and much more. It’s only seven minutes long and feel free to check it out in your free time if you need a good laugh.
