BREAKING: PGA TOUR Temporarily Suspends Due to Coronavirus “Panic”
We get it, let’s be precautious. Let’s get rid of this thing and move on with our lives.
The PGA Tour has followed the lead of all of the other major sports in the US. This weeks Players Championship has been canceled along with the next three events as the United States (and the world) try’s to get COVID-19 under control. In a statement released by the PGA Tour Thursday night that said the following.
“We did everything possible to create a safe environment for our players in order to continue the event throughout the weekend, and we were endeavoring to give our fans a much-needed respite from the current climate. But at this point – and as the situation continues to rapidly change – the right thing to do for our players and our fans is to pause.”
Earlier in the day CT Pan withdrew from the event stating personal health concerns for him and his wife.

Now I personally think this is the right call. These players are in and out of airports and have traveled from all over the world. They are surrounded by fans who are packed together like sardines. I get it and this makes sense. Hopefully the drastic measures taken by the NBA, MLB and now the PGA Tour help put this virus to an end as travel is minimized. It’s still TBD if the Masters will be canceled next but it doesn’t look good.
Just got a text from an Augusta National member: “I believe the tournament will be played. Discussions are ongoing. Limiting patrons seems likely. Might be none at all. Closing practice rounds, canceling the Par-3…everything is on the table. Expect an announcement next week.”
