Fantasy Golf Sleeper Report – RBC Heritage
2020 RBC Heritage Fantasy Sleeper Report
Even though golf’s temporary ‘new normal’ may have played out bizarrely on screen at the Charles Schwab Challenge, with no patrons in attendance and the commentators scattered across America, the drama on the course was not diminished in anyway.
Indeed, the closing action from Daniel Berger, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele will long be remembered for all the right reasons.
It was very much advantage Schauffele throughout on Sunday until he made a complete mess of his final stretch, and a lip-out putt on seventeen was enough to think that the golfing gods were conspiring against him at a fair Colonial test.
Berger’s chipping prowess saw him climb the leaderboard, and while his -15 looked likely to be usurped in the end nobody could get past him – Morikawa, whose iron play was exemplary, the only man to match him in the end.
Their playoff hole took place on seventeen, and this time it was Morikawa who would suffer the misfortune of a lip-out to hand Berger his third – and arguably long overdue – PGA TOUR title.
Forget COVID-19 – this was tremendous clutch golf played by some outstanding young talents, and it was on Sunday where perhaps we were all reminded of how grateful we should be that this incredible sport is back for (presumably) good.
The Tour has put a full revised schedule in place from now until September, and next up will be the RBC Heritage at the Harbour Town Links on Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Another stellar field will line up in an event which has been very kind to sleeper pick bettors in recent years – C.T. Pan (160/1), Satoshi Kodaira (200/1) and Wesley Bryan (66/1) all rewarding their backers handsomely when taking care of business on the Links.
Can we expect another long-priced winner this time around? Perhaps, although it’s worth noting that normally this tournament takes place a week after The Masters, so there tends to be something of an Augusta hangover in the battle for the tartan jacket.
That said, there’s plenty of quality operators available at 50/1 or greater this week, and as we saw with Berger at Colonial there’s a chance for less-fancied players to shine even in premium class fields.
We’re off to a Pete Dye layout this week and this gives a clue as to the kind of challenge that lies ahead. The main defense here is the smaller-than-average greens which, when you factor in the strong winds that tend to blow in from the ocean, makes GIR a real test.
So, we’re looking for players with a strong short game to thrive this week, but there’s also a premium on finding fairways too as some of the fairways a Harbour Town are flanked by considerable tree coverage.
There’s no emphasis on length off the tee, and really you expect this event to be contested by chippers and scramblers who can produce consistent excellence with wedges in hand. And making some putts….but then you know that already.
With all of that in mind, who can get the job done this week? Here are our sleeper picks for the RBC Heritage.

RBC Heritage Fantasy Sleeper Report
Branden Grace – 60/1 – The South African holds the record for the lowest-ever round in the British Open, so you can bet your bottom dollar that he loves playing Links golf.
Other than off the tee, Grace was in excellent touch at Colonial last time out, and with the fairways and driving lines more forgiving at Harbour Town he should be in prime position to thrive.
A former champion here, Grace also has T7 and T11 finishes to his name at this track, so his backers can feel pretty confident in their man this week.
Kevin Kisner – 66/1 – On his own Twitter feed, Kevin Kisner remarked that he felt his game was ‘coming together’ right now, and ahead of a trip to one of his favorite layouts on Tour that bodes very well.
A formline of 41-7-11-69-2 reveals complete comfort on the Links here, and his improving confidence will surely be elevated when he tees up on Thursday.
A player with a fine short game, Kisner’s house is in order for a really strong showing this week.
Ian Poulter – 80/1 – Another player who routinely comes up with the goods at Harbour Town is Ian Poulter, whose formline of 10-7-11-54-18 here tells its own story in technicolor.
He started like a train with a round of 66 at Colonial, and while he fell away from there it was pleasing to see how well he was striking the ball – especially on the greens, where he appears to have his feel back.
With proven form in the wind and on Pete Dye tracks, Poulter has to be respected at Harbour Town.
Shane Lowry – 80/1 – A third place finish here in 2019 should come as no surprise – this golf course is absolutely perfect for Shane Lowry.
The Irishman grew up playing coastal Links tracks, and that grounding in the wind means he had to develop a fine short game – especially when chipping onto ultra-firm greens.
The only question mark about Lowry is why he hasn’t won more in his career, although he did rectify that by lifting two trophies in 2019 – including the British Open.
Rory Sabbatini – 125/1 – Here’s a strange pick, given that Rory Sabbatini hasn’t won on the PGA TOUR in nine years.
But with three top-10s and a trio of other top-25s at Harbour Town, the adopted Slovak is something of a course horse here.
He played really well at Colonial last week for his T14 finish, hitting some very nice irons and putting reliably too.
If he can add his trademark chipping into the mix, Sabbatini could roll back the years at his favorite course.
