Bryson DeChambeau Had Another On-Course Tantrum

A few weeks ago when Bryson won the Rocket Mortgage Classic, all the storylines were about how he had accosted a PGA TOUR cameraman for filming every single one of his actions. Bryson caught a lot of flack for his actions after that win but things seemed to have calmed down a bit. Well that all changed this past week at the Memorial.

DeChambeau wasn’t really in contention in the tournament but he was right on the cut line when he approached the 15th hole. That’s where it all went sideways. Bryson hit two straight shots that went out of bounds and may have illegally dropped on the third shot, as he was seen patting down the rough right where he dropped his ball. But that wasn’t even what caught everyone’s attention.

The biggest tirade that occurred was after his first shot was hit and he was forced to drop because it was deemed out of bounds. He argued with the rules official saying that since the ball was touching a metal fence that was the out of bounds marker, that his ball was actually in play. A second rules official then came over and also declared the ball to be out of bounds. Bryson then claimed that the spot was “a garbage ruling like usual” before having some more choice words for the officials.

DeChambeau eventually had to just swallow the ruling and take a 10 on the hole, which virtually knocked him out of the weekend competition. Perhaps the funniest part of the whole scenario was that Bryson’s caddie then rushed towards a Golf Channel cameraman on the following hole, so he wasn’t able to film Bryson going down the fairway. Perhaps Bryson told him to be a bodyguard or the caddie just didn’t want to have another scene with a cameraman but it was bizarre nonetheless.

It seems like Bryson is continuously starting to lose his cool quicker and more often on the course and that’s not a good look for him or the PGA TOUR. Hopefully, DeChambeau can help himself by getting his emotions squared away on the course but if not, it won’t be long until the PGA TOUR has to step in and do something about this.
