COMBO: College Gameday Broadcasting From The Masters
Typically, by the time that the college football season rolls around, the most important parts of the golf season are already over. But this year, we have two major events from both sports colliding for one huge weekend.
ESPN, the television home of the Masters, is looking to combine that action with one of their biggest and most popular shows, College Gameday. For those who aren’t that into college football, College Gameday is basically a show where analysts discuss the biggest college football games coming up that day. It also includes a bunch of often drunk college football fans with crazy signs that they try to get shown on TV.
So on Saturday, November 14th, both worlds collide with the College Gameday set broadcasting from Augusta National. For those concerned that this might mess with the Masters, the show only broadcasts from 9-12 EST in the morning. Even if that still concerns you, the show is going to be set up on the Par 3 course, far from any competition.
Just announced: ESPN’s College Gameday will air live from Augusta National on Sat., Nov. 14, before the Round 3 broadcast of the Masters.

The studio will be staged overlooking Ike’s Pond and the ninth green of the Par 3 course. Fred Ridley: “We were drawn to the concept of hosting College Gameday to introduce the tournament to a new audience and provide even more anticipation and excitement to the event.”

ESPN is extremely excited to bring these two events together that normally wouldn’t even be a remote possibility. “Any time College GameDay travels to a new destination, it’s special, and the opportunity to be on the grounds of Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters is extraordinary,” said Jimmy Pitaro, chairman, ESPN and Sports Content. “As this iconic event coincides with the college football season for the first time, we look forward to getting fans ready for a football Saturday while also showcasing the Masters and the greatest golfers in the world.”

Since the College Gameday set is usually at the stadium of the major game they’re featuring, it’s pretty likely that there won’t be drunk college kids invading Augusta like normal. It’s also unknown what game will end up being the “feature” game but the leading contenders right now seem to be No. 9 Wisconsin at No. 13 Michigan and No. 2 Alabama at LSU.
There has been a lot of negative things to come out of the COVID-19 crisis in all sports this year, but this is definitely a positive to see these two major events come together. We’ll have to see how it goes this weekend and who knows, maybe it could lead to more similar collabs in the future.
