Setting COVID aside, the holiday season is, arguably, one of the most underrated times to visit Sandhills region of North Carolina and, most importantly, Pinehurst Resort.

The USGA’s recently-announced future second home is the setting of its famed No. 2 Course, recently minted as a U.S. Open “Anchor Site” starting with the 2024 edition.

From a golf consumer standpoint, November through February presents an extended, value-laden period (potential frost delays notwithstanding). Rates on golf packages like the ever-popular Donald Ross Package drop more than 50% through the winter.

You can book a two-night stay in The Carolina Hotel, three (3) rounds of golf on any of the resort’s nine golf courses and enjoy Pinehurst’s famous Southern breakfast and a three-course dinner each night starting at $713 as of November 29th.

While there is a modest surcharge for playing No. 2, with all the seasonal savings it makes it a no-brainer while visiting. However, even if you want to stay on budget with the Donald Ross Package, you can still enjoy Pinehurst’s premium tracks like No. 4, No. 8 and No. 9. Indeed, Pinehurst No. 4 was recently redesigned by Gil Hanse and, as a result, has found itself among the Top 100 Courses in the U.S., according to Golf Magazine.

And in case you’re already shopping dates, it’s important to know what to expect: December and January highs are usually in the 50s, with February back into the 60s. It goes without saying that there still can be big swings in highs and lows, so be sure to dress for the best and less-than-ideal scenarios to make sure you enjoy every round.
