All You Need To Know About The New DP World Tour
Goodbye European Tour. Hello DP World Tour.
Well, kind of. The European Tour Group, the same people who’ve always run the European Tour and the European Team for the Ryder Cup, will remain. The big change is that DP World are now the Official Title Sponsor.
But what does this actually mean?

The European Tour
Fundamentally, not much is changing. The Tour is not evolving from a European Tour to a World Tour. In fact, it’s been a World Tour for quite a while and arguably this rebrand is long overdue.
Set up in 1961, the European Tour has been jetting off further afield since 1982’s Tunisian Open in North Africa. Since then, the Tour has visited Australia, Argentina, Bahrain, Barbados, Brazil, China, Chinese Taipei, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, Oman, the Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, the UAE, and of course, the US.
In fact, of 47 events held in 2011, 21 events (45%) were held outside of Europe, and this excludes the majors and World Golf Championship events which are mostly US based.

One of the big changes is the money up for grabs.
Record Prize Money
This new deal is a great deal for players with overall prize funds in 2022 set to top $140 million for all tournaments excluding the majors and WGCs, outstripping the previous high of $130 million in 2019. Including Majors and WGCs, that figure tops $200 million.
A new $2 million minimum prize fund will also apply to each tournament.
There will also be a record prize fund of $10 million at the season ending 2022 DP World Tour Championship — the first European Tour event to feature an eight figure prize pool.

New Title Sponsor
Dubai Port World, or DP World for short, is a Dubai based logistics company who are the leading provider of global smart end-to-end supply chain and logistics solutions — perfect for helping a golf tour traverse the globe.
This is not a new partnership. DP World have partnered with the European Tour since the 2009 Race to Dubai, which went on to become a Rolex Series event and was renamed the DP World Tour Championship in 2012. DP World then became an Official Partner of the European Tour in 2015, and now Official Title Partner from 2022.
