Anthony Kim Reappears, Says He’s Done With Golf
The PGA TOUR has had its fair share of great disappearance acts in its history, most notably former world No. 1 David Duvall who collapsed with a case of the yips and faded into obscurity. Now another promising player who vanished years ago has popped up again.
If you were watching golf a few years ago, you may remember Anthony Kim, a young hotshot out of the U.S. that was turning a lot of heads in the early 2010s. He notched three wins on the PGA TOUR, including two top-five finishes in majors.
Kim also grabbed a Ryder Cup and President’s Cup trophy during his hay day and was looked at as one of the bright young stars in the game.
All of that talk came to a screeching halt in 2012, when Kim suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon that resulted in him missing the entire year. And while he was able to compete in 2013 on a medical exemption, Kim never took the tee box that year and has not played golf at all since then.
Kim subsequently vanished from the limelight with all that potential leaving with him.

In a surprise sighting, Kim was spotted in Hollywood this week and talked to Benjamin Bujnowski who is connected to Golf.com. Kim didn’t appear to have any issue being caught in public and even chatted with Bujnowski for a bit. But as for the question that all fans have on their mind, Kim doesn’t appear to be making any comebacks, stating that his golf game is “non-existent.”
The questions continue to linger about why Kim left the game. How could a 27-year-old with so much success walk away from golf in the middle of his prime? There has been speculation that Kim cashed in on an insurance policy that restricts him from playing golf again and that’s why he never returned. But after such a serious injury, who’s to say that he just wanted to protect his health.
Regardless of the reason, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Kim again any time soon. Then again, Kim only turns 34 in June so if he ever did want to make a comeback, the door will be open to do so for at least a few more years.
