First off, if you’re not following Golficity on TWITCH, click the link – it’s about to get serious.  The new PGA TOUR 2K21 is here.

Golf video games were dominated by the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour series made by EA Sports. EA eventually dropped the series, however, and there have been a few games in between that have given avid golf fans an option for playing from their own homes. But starting this year, 2K Sports picked up the PGA TOUR rights and have released their own version of a golf video game.

2K Sports is most known for its work on the NBA video games that have been a great success, mostly for their “MyPlayer” mode. That made them a perfect choice to revamp a golf game franchise, which will revolve around an individualistic career mode similar to the NBA 2K “MyPlayer” mode. The game dropped on August 19th and is available on all major platforms.

Since the game has been out for about a week now, there are a few reviews and many people are loving the game. According to most reviews, players will be reminded of the career mode of the old EA Sports games, as your created player will have the opportunity to play in events, earn money, and buy new gear to add to the look of your player.

But for players who just enjoy playing a quick round, that’s available too with a quick play feature. Players can also design their own course to play on, different from the old EA Sports games where you could only build a “Dream Course” using real holes from real courses.

As for how realistic the game is, there are 15 real-life courses and tournaments within the game but, unfortunately, none of those are major championships. There are also 12 real pro golfers that you can use in the game and compete against, most notably Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, and more.

Overall, it’s exciting to have a golf video game back and available, especially during the current world that we’re living in, and it looks like there will be more upgrades along the way. So even if you’re unable to get out on the course yourself, PGA Tour 2K21 may be a good backup option to get your golf fix in.
