BAD BOY: Brooks Koepka Feuding With The Golf Channel

There are many players on the PGA TOUR who have no problem sharing their opinions and getting their voice out there as often as possible. But it looks like Brooks Koepka is starting to take it to a new level with the number of feuds he’s starting to rack up.

For those who may not have been aware, Koepka has been poking fun at Bryson DeChambeau for weeks because of Bryson’s recent bulk up. That continued this past weekend with Koepka tweeting out a GIF of the TV character Kenny Powers running at a camera which included a caption that read “Kenny Powers confronts steroids allegations.” Many see this as a shot at DeChambeau for his recent run-in with a cameraman on the course or an accusation that Bryson is using steroids. Or it could be both.

That’s certainly what Golf Channel analyst Paige Mackenzie thought when she called out Koepka on the “Morning Drive” show. “I completely disagree with this,” Mackenzie said. “A: I don’t think it’s very professional to put that out there. Either he was making fun of Bryson’s tussle with the camera guy, or accusing him of steroids – one or the other. I thought it was completely unprofessional. I think it’s beyond shots fired. I think he should have been fined by the PGA Tour. I certainly hope he is because you don’t treat your fellow competitors that way.”

Koepka had a clever way of responding to Mackenzie, however, even if it does seem a bit petty. Golf Digest tweeted out a picture of Brooks wiping some sweat off of his forehead and told followers to “caption this.” Well, that’s exactly what Brooks did, tweeting out “When you hear that annoying voice on tv and look up and see it’s @paigegolf,” which is Mackenzie’s twitter handle.

If you can remember, this isn’t even the first time that Koepka has had this type of confrontation with the Golf Channel. He’s always had a running feud going with the notorious analyst troll, Brandel Chamblee. That feud has been about Chamblee constantly critiquing his game and saying that Koepka isn’t as good as he thinks he is. This one, however, seems to be more about Mackenzie calling out Brooks’ professionalism. And his response isn’t really helping his cause.

You have to wonder why Koepka continues to watch the Golf Channel when he so obviously isn’t a fan of how they portray him. But regardless of why he does, these feuds do tend to add some entertainment to the golf world. Who knows if it’ll get resolved any time soon but it’ll be interesting to see if this feud continues into the future.

Koepka is right – Paige McKenzie is an annoying voice on television. She pretends to be an authority on golf and on what it takes to be a great golfer, when she was nothing more than mediocre, herself. She injects herself into conversations about golf, as if her opinions matter, and they don’t. She second-guesses shot decisions by great players and offers her opinions on so many subjects where she has no clue. Golf Channel needs to replace her with an announcer who understands their place. Their other announcers on LPGA events are much better.
