More Bad News for Tiger Fans – Woods Set to Miss U.S. Open

You may recall back in April when the news of Tiger Woods registering for the U.S. Open sent the golf world into a frenzy.

Well…never mind.

Tiger Woods announced, via his website, that he will not be playing in the second major of 2016.  This marks the third time in five years in which Woods will miss two major championships in a year.

“While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year’s U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National.  I am making progress, but I’m not yet ready for tournament competition.”

While it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Woods is once again sitting out a major, it’s still a disheartening reminder that the greatest golfer in generations is likely closer to a forced retirement than his former, dominating self.

And despite the fact that his agent insists his client will eventually play this year, the very simple question of “when” looms large.  The fact is, the 14-time major winner has the schedule, and his back, working very much against him.
