BREAKING: Brooks Koepka Withdraws From NORTHERN TRUST

Brooks Koepka announced this week that he would not be playing in the NORTHERN TRUST this week due to a knee and hip injury. This decision comes on the heels of Koepka’s poor performance at the Wyndham Championship, where he missed the cut and complained about some left side issues. Koepka had surgery on his left knee just last year but has insisted that is not what’s causing him pain.

Speaking about the injury, Koepka assured spectators that his play has faltered recently due only to his physical ailments. “This is physical,” Koepka said. “I know how to do it, I can do it. I just physically can’t do it.” And to ensure that he’s able to continue “doing it” this year, Koepka thinks it’s in his best interest to sit this event, and the next few weeks, out.

As I mentioned above, after the Northern Trust, the 2019-2020 PGA TOUR season ends for anyone that is outside the top 70 in points. And Koepka isn’t anywhere close to that mark, currently sitting at 97th. Even if he hadn’t withdrawn this week, Koepka likely would have needed a finish somewhere in the top-20 at the Northern Trust to have a chance to qualify. And for a guy who only has two top-25 finishes in 13 starts this year, that didn’t seem likely.

So for Koepka, he won’t be teeing off again for about a month because the next scheduled event he’s set to play in is the U.S. Open in just four weeks. Shortly after that, the 2020-2021 PGA TOUR schedule is set to kick off and Koepka has no doubt that he’ll be able to return by then and get back on a regular playing schedule.

Overall, it seems like a smart move on Koepka’s part to just take some time to rest up from whatever is bothering him. And hopefully, with that bit of rest, Brooks will be back and fully charged with a few more majors coming down the pipeline.
