Garmin is going all in on developing an incredibly accurate, competitive priced consumer launch monitor, the Approach R10.

Garmin is most well-known for its incredibly accurate wearable (like the Approach S12) and handheld GPS devices (Approach G80).  More recently, Garmin rangefinders offer an industry unique blend of GPS data and laser precision (Approach Z82).

The Approach R10 is a lightweight portable golf launch monitor designed to help golfers improve their game at home, indoors, or on the driving range.

After pairing the R10 with the Garmin Golf app, golfers will have access to over a dozen metrics in real time, including: Club Head Speed, Club Face Angle, Club Path Angle, Angle of Attack, Ball Speed, Launch Angle, Launch Direction, Spin Axis, Spin Rate, Apex Height, Smash Factor, Carry Distance, Total Distance, and Deviation Distance.

The value of these metrics cannot be understated, as these are the stats that Pros often turn to help sharpen their game and dial in distances and ball flight.  The only difference is that while a Trackman can cost more than $20,000, the Approach R10 cost $600—approximately the cost of a new driver or less than 5% the cost of a Trackman.

“The Approach R10 golf launch monitor combines lightweight portability with a fun, easy-to-use platform so you can work on your game wherever and whenever you’d like,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales. “Whether you are tied up with a busy schedule or facing impending weather on the range, you can still work on your golf swing from home or virtually take a shot where the pros will play this weekend. Either way, the Approach R10 keeps you golfing.”

The Approach R10 comes directly from Garmin with two modes:

  • Driving Range Mode, which can be used indoors and outdoors, allows golfers to work on every club in the bag to identify their strengths and areas of improvement and automatically record video clips to analyze their swing.  In Driving Range Mode, golfers can track stats for each club and review their ball flight; and
  • Home Tee Hero golf simulator mode, where golfers can challenge their game on over 42,000 golf courses worldwide.  This is a Home Tee Hero is a subscription feature, but Garmin offers users a free 30-day trial (perfect for if you’re about to leave for a golf trip or play a new course near home).

In addition to Driving Range Mode and Home Tee Hero, the Approach R10 also has direct compatibility with E6 CONNECT—a very popular golf simulator software that is commonly utilized on many high-end simulator systems—and their library of content with photorealistic courses that can be played at any time to enhance the overall golfing experience.

The Approach R10 was designed to be portable, and as a result comes with a versatile phone mount that golfers can easily attach to a golf bag or place on the ground as a kickstand to improve viewing during play and accessibility with the Garmin Golf app. With up to 10 hours of battery life, golfers can practice and play longer without worrying about being cut short.

The Approach R10 is available NOW, which is perfect if you’re gearing up for your local club championship or want to keep your golf game sharp during the offseason!
