BREAKING: Rory McIlroy Hires New Swing Coach, Pete Cowen

Rory has been with the same swing coach since he was 8 years old. Now, after falling outside the Top 10 in the OWGR, he moves on.

McIlroy has worked with Cowen in the past, but in an unofficial way – mostly when his regular coach (Michael Bannon) wasn’t available. He was with Rory at Bay Hill and Sawgrass over the last month.

At the moment, there hasn’t been an official announcement from Rory’s camp, but he’s told other players on TOUR he’s making the change. Other players on Cowen’s roster include Brooks Koepka and Henrik Stenson.

As a life-long Rory fan, this was a surprise. Bannon knows Rory better than anyone else on TOUR. So for him to do this, may be a sign he wants to make some changes. Or, and I think this is more likely, Rors just wants a fresh pair of eyes to help him get his game back to World No. 1 level.

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
