Bruce Bolt Gloves: Golf’s New Top Choice

Playing Through: After quickly becoming one of the top options for baseball batting gloves, Bruce Bolt has decided to look beyond the fences and take on some fairways. The Original Series are going to be a huge hit, if golfers can stomach the price; Bruce Bolt’s construction and materials means golfers can play with a thin, cabretta leather glove that actually withstands repeated use from abusive, cord-style grips and humid, summer days.

Bruce Bolt isn’t a name familiar to many golfers. The brand started in 2017 by then 16-year-old Bear Mayer, who sought to make a better batting glove for baseball players. Less than 10 years later, it’s safe to say he’s accomplished his goal (and exceeds all expectations): Bruce Bolt batting gloves can regularly be spotted on MLB players, including Fernando Tatis Jr., Pete Alonso, Ronald Acuña Jr., and countless others.

So after breaking into America’s pastime, Bruce Bolt has decided it’s time to conquer another pastime: golf.

Like their baseball offerings, Bruce Bolt’s “Original Series” golf gloves are made with premium cabretta leather and then finished off with a “secret sauce” spray that helps increase the durability and longevity of the gloves.

While the initial release of the “Original Series” were available in traditional White, Blue, Pink and Black, Bruce Bolt has added two additional color ways: Navy and Mint. Regardless what you go with, Bruce Bolt gloves are—unlike every other glove I’m aware of—sold in two packs. While this increases the cost (Bruce Bolt’s retail for $80), the idea is that you rotate your two gloves at least every 9 holes to help prolong the longevity of the leather.

Dad joke notwithstanding, Bruce Bolt’s golf gloves are a homerun. Immediately upon opening the reusable glove package, you notice that these gloves are packed with a lot more care than everything else you’ve ever used. Similarly, when you try them on, you notice little things: the leather is soft, it stretches but doesn’t become loose on your hand, and the stitching is never in a spot that bothers you or your grip.

And Bruce Bolt’s attention to detail and quality isn’t something that has a short shelf-life. After more than 100 holes in peak summer heat and humidity, the Bruce Bolt gloves didn’t wilt, weather, or even fray, despite the fact that all of my clubs are equipped with Golf Pride ZGRIP Cord grips—perhaps the most aggressive corded grip on the market. By simply adhering to Bruce Bolt’s recommendation and rotating gloves at the turn, the Original Series gloves aren’t scuffed and haven’t gotten that stiff, crusty feel. In fact, just the opposite; despite all the summer play, the Original Series are still soft and fit snug around my entire hand each and every time I put them on.

And this is a significant departure from the mix of gloves I’ve played from mainstream OEMs and micro-brands. Despite carrying several gloves with me, I would be lucky to get lucky to get half as many holes out of my gloves before they’d stretch out, start to tear in the thumb or heel or get crusty from dried sweat. And while these alternatives may cost less on a per glove basis, I’m also not looking to replace them twice as fast (which would eliminate any “savings”).

The easiest way to sum this up is that you truly get what you pay for. Yes, you can certainly look at gloves as a disposable part of your golf arsenal, which makes something like the Kirkland Signature 5-pack feel like a “better buy,” but there’s also a reason why the Titleist Pro V1 is the top golf ball—among professionals and amateurs alike. And to that point, I think we can all agree that amateur golfers go through golf balls much faster than gloves.

The Bruce Bolt Original Series are, in my opinion, the ultimate golf glove. The construction is top tier from both a quality and durability standpoint. So while the cost might make hitting that “place order” button hurt a little more, the fact that I’m replacing a better-feeling glove less frequently makes it a fleeting memory.

Ever since golf became a competitive outlet, nothing brings Eric more joy than a well struck 4 iron. And despite living in NYC, Eric makes it a priority to work on his game and fitness during the week, along with a round or two over the weekend. Fortunately, he’s got a very understanding fiancé who (for the time being) accepts him and his obsession. Follow Eric on IG @hozel_rocket.
