Bryson DeChambeau Just Ignited His Rivalry with Rory McIlroy
Bryson DeChambeau has undoubtedly rolled with the punches as his biggest rival has surfaced as one of the biggest names in golf: Rory McIlroy.
DeChambeau has been at odds with McIlroy for over a year, as Father’s Day 2024 revealed he could outlast the Northern Irishman at the Majors, as he edged him out for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst.
However, McIlroy got the second and third laughs this year, winning the Masters and the Ryder Cup. Although we were slighted of the two playing against one another during the Sunday of the Ryder Cup, we are starting to get the sense of a rivalry that is beginning to flourish and could be among the best things in golf in the coming years.
Here’s where it has been the past few weeks:
Rory says Bryson is Attention-Starved
McIlroy said that DeChambeau “only gets attention by mentioning other people. That is basically what I think of that. To get attention, he will mention me or Scottie or others.”
DeChambeau said he wanted to be chirping in Rory’s ear if they were put up against each other in Sunday Singles. It might have been a response to Rory not talking to Bryson much during their Final Round pairing at The Masters.

Rory Covers Bryson’s Name at Ryder Cup
McIlroy then covered DeChambeau’s name on the Ryder Cup stands after winning the event late last month:

McIlroy certainly is playing into the rivalry, especially with what he said about DeChambeau’s need for attention.
Bryson Strikes Back Subtly during ‘Break 50’ with Steph Curry
DeChambeau took a few hits from Rory and ended up striking back during his recent “Break 50” round on his YouTube channel, which featured Steph Curry.
Bryson said:
“Other people have had tougher moments missing three-footers and putts for major championships.”
Finally, Bryson is getting into it. Perhaps moving forward, the two will have a chippier relationship, especially if they’re paired together during the Majors during the 2026 season.
