Despite TaylorMade being the first OEM to let its 2024 driver see the light of day, it’s Callaway who’s officially debuting their new model and, with that, confirming all of its details.

For 2024, Callaway will be debuting the Paradym Ai Smoke lineup, which will be comprised of four different driver models—the MAX, MAX D, MAX FAST, and Triple Diamond—that each target a certain golfer.

The MAX—available in 9, 10.5, and 12—is a Mid-High Launching, Low Spinning Driver with a Neutral ball flight that can be adjusted with an adjustable rear sliding weight. The MAX D—available in 9, 10.5, and 12 degrees—is a High Launching, Mid-Low Spinning Driver with a Draw-biased Ball Flight that features a fixed, rear weight. The MAX FAST—available in 10.5 and 12 degrees—is, similarly, a High Launching, Mid-Low Spinning Driver with a Draw-biased Ball Flight, but targets the slower-swinging golfer. And finally, there is the Triple Diamond—available in 8, 9, and 10.5 degrees—which is still a Lower Launching, Lower Spinning Driver with a Neutral/Fade-biased ball flight that features interchangeable front and rear weights.

While there’s nothing too alarming about drivers dedicated to different swing needs (launch, spin, flight bias), what is noteworthy about the Smoke is that A.I. is having a substantial influence here to make sure the ball not only goes far but also straight.

The flagship new development is the Ai Smart Face. After analyzing more than 250,000 swings, Callaway collected over a million data points that fueled more than 50,000 simulations to develop a club face that addresses every swing imaginable—ranging from the heel strike with a natural path and open face to the toe strike with the inside/out path and closed face.

With this information, Callaway was able to feed the A.I. every swing and impact variation imaginable and develop Ai Smart Face to develop faces that react differently in different sectors for golfers (rather than a more uniform reaction across the face). Without getting too into the tech talk (most of which flies over my head), Callaway claims the Smoke will fly straighter (and far, too).

The Ai Smart Face, however, isn’t the only development. The Smoke will feature an updated carbon chassis that allows for improved weight distribution. The changes are much easier to explain here: 15% lighter and equipped with a titanium support structure. Speaking of titanium, this is the first time since 2017 that Callaway’s flagship drivers will not include Jailbreak.

As the teaser photos revealed, the Smoke lineup will feature a grey forged carbon look with vibrant blue accenting. From address, there is a gloss crown with a carbon weave that mates to a matte grey front section that features the Callaway chevron. Each of the Smoke models will retail at $600 and are available for pre-sale on January 12th and retail on January 26th.
