Golf certainly has plenty of celebrity fans and spectators but many of those celebrities are not directly involved with the sport. Celebs like Steph Curry and Tony Romo will compete with professional golfers but they don’t sponsor many big events or work with all aspects of the sport.

Darius Rucker stands out in this aspect, as he not only participates in the game by playing but also hosts numerous events for several golf associations. Some of the events the Rucker has helped sponsor in the golf world include the women’s Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and the Darius and Friends tournament combined with a concert that has resulted in over $1 million in donations for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Rucker, best known for as the Grammy-award winning singer for Hootie & the Blowfish as well as his solo, country career, is now taking his passion a bit further by creating a golf themed talk show on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio. The show will be on once a month and will focus on getting to know the lives of golfers off of the course.

Rucker is quite a busy man but said that the opportunity to have his own radio show was too good to pass up. “The president of Sirius wanted to do this for awhile now. He loved the idea of talking to golfers about life and other passions, which got me excited too,” Rucker said of the show. “I want to do a show where I can talk about music, movies they love, humanize the guys, and also talk the game.”

Rucker’s new show seems to be another way that the PGA will try to enhance the reach of golf as a whole. Golf as a sport has been trying to branch into new audiences and by adding Rucker to talk about the game, it opens the game up to those who wouldn’t normally listen to the sport but will listen to Rucker because they are fans of his music.

For those that are interested in listening to the pilot episode of “On Par with Darius Rucker,” the show will be debuting on Wednesday, July 26th, at 3:00 p.m. EST.
