The supercomputer at A.I.’s headquarters must be getting bored, or extending its influence. After becoming a major influence on the design of Callaway drivers since 2019 with the Epic Flash, it seems that the A.I. is ready to take on the opposite end of the golfer’s bag: putters.

In an attempt to develop the ultimate putter, Callaway’s A.I. has developed two different faces that, with the help of unique groove patterns, look to minimize speed loss on off-center putts, expand the sweet spot and, according to Odyssey, help putts finish up to 21% percent closer to the hole.

The decision to let A.I. develop an Odyssey putter is best explained by Luke Williams Sr. Global Director at Odyssey, who said:

“We’ve designed two different putters under this Ai-One umbrella with really two different objectives. We have the milled line, the champagne-colored insert which is a milled titanium insert in a milled stainless steel head. So you get that look and feel of a milled putter, that is very important to us, to have the feel of that be consistent with what players that use milled putters expect, but with performance you wouldn’t get from a typical milled putter.”

And then we also knew that we wanted to have a White Hot version or a urethane softer feeling insert because that’s what through the years has really had the most decided advantage in the marketplace and really has become what we’ve been most known for, so that insert is a combination of an aluminum back section which has the contours which deliver the consistent ball speed married and co-molded to a White Hot urethane on the front. And that delivers the soft feel and the sound that that players have come to love for White Hot, so those are the two types of inserts – they both have tremendous performance.”

So to expand on what’s explained above, the first variant is the Ai-One Milled, which features a premium, A.I.-designed titanium insert to again achieve a larger sweet spot and enhanced forgiveness, minimizing speed loss on putts struck away from the center of the face. Available in eight different head designs (2 blades, 6 mallets), the Ai-One Milled’s milled stainless steel heads are finished in a blue PVD finish, which offers a tasteful contrast to the copper-ish coloration to the milled titanium insert, and sole-positioned weights—available in 5, 10, 15 and 20-grams—to dial in head weight.

The second variant is the Ai-One, which features a contoured aluminum insert that is co-molded to the back of Odyssey’s famed White Hot insert that, notably, features horizontal grooves (unlike the overlapping oval-esq milling pattern on the Ai-One Milled). To help showcase the face technology, which is available in all five different head designs (2 blades, 3 mallets), Odyssey engineers developed a Panlite window that is positioned in different locations on blade and mallet models. Like the Ai-One Milled, the Ai-One features a blue PVD finish across the line and sole-positioned weights—available in 5, 10, 15 and 20-grams—to dial in head weight.
