EQUIPMENT: PXG’s Black Ops Driver Heads Hit USGA Conforming List
If the past 24 hours can confirm anything, it’s that we’re fully in equipment season. In just this week, TaylorMade, Cobra and PING all had new equipment land on the USGA Conforming Golf Club List. And now PXG can join them with three new Black Ops driver heads.

Pictured above, and going from left to right, are the PXG Black Ops, Black Ops Tour-1 and Black Ops Tour-3 heads. While each feature a polished black sole with some light PXG branding, sole weighting and, for the first time, a rear weight cone that brings to mind TaylorMade’s Inertia Generator first seen on the SIM, there are some visual differences between the three models.
For example, the Black Ops—which is listed in 8°, 9°, 10.5° and 12° head lofts—features two weights that are positioned as far out on the toe and heel as appears to be possible. Meanwhile, the Black Ops Tour-1—listed in 8°, 9° and 10.5° head lofts—and Black Ops Tour-3—listed in only 8° and 9°—heads both have their weights located more towards the center, perhaps signaling that these are more of the low-spin focused models.
Also visible is that the PXG Black Ops and Black Ops Tour-1 appear to have a two-piece sole (perhaps carbon in the mid-section?), while the Black Ops Tour-3 appears to have a single-piece mid/rear section.
The question of course is where do these Black Ops heads fit into the current lineup? Indeed, PXG’s GEN6 lineup is less than a year old and each of these models are labeled as 0311, which tend to signal that they are part of the primary lineup.

My guess is that these new Black Ops heads, if they come to retail, are the second coming of the 0811 Proto drivers that PXG offered back in 2020 (which later paved the way for the GEN4 release approximately a year later).
And as mentioned yesterday, this is merely the beginning of the 2024 equipment launches. So as more details come out about these PXG Black Ops heads, we’ll make sure to share them with you. So make sure to follow Golficity so you don’t miss out on any of new releases as they keep rolling out.
