Fantasy Golf Picks, Odds, and Predictions for the 2015 Wyndham Championship
The 2015 Wyndham Championship Fantasy Preview
It’s a great feeling knowing that we’ve successfully picked the winner in all four majors of the 2015 season! We’ll touch more on that terrific feat in a moment, but first let’s set you up with this week’s event preview.
After missing the cut at last week’s PGA Championship Tiger Woods has altered his schedule to make his first appearance at this event in a last-ditch effort to move into the Top 125 before the FedExCup playoffs kick off with The Barclays next week. Woods is currently 62 spots outside the cutoff at 187th place and it will take a miracle (essentially a win or runner up) for Tiger to squeak his way into the playoffs.
Other names who are “on the bubble” include last year’s Wyndham champ Camillo Villegas (129th), Charl Schwartzel (125th), and Luke Donald (124th). It’s worth pointing out that no one has come to Greensboro in the last five years outside the 135 spot and earned a playoff berth, but we’re still hoping Tiger shocks the golf world this week with something miraculous.
Last Week’s Fantasy Results
With a talent-heavy field there were plenty of directions you could have gone with for your fantasy rosters last week (Rory, DJ, Spieth, Day, Rose, Scott, Walker, Fowler, etc.). In last week’s fantasy predictions segment we made the bold prediction to have Spieth and Day as your 1 and 2 slots and wow did that pay off!
Our horse pick Jordan Spieth finished 2nd at last week’s PGA Championship and our #2 pick, Jason Day took the top prize (congrats Jason!). We don’t often like brag about our picks but we can say with certainty that we made the right decision leaving McIlroy (finished 17th), DJ (fell to T7 after a first hole collapse on Sunday), and Walker (missed the cut) on the bench last week.
The Day victory marks our 12th winner and 13th (Spieth) runner up out of 37 events this year! The big week brought in a total of $3.3 million in fantasy earnings and only one fantasy selection missed the cut out of our seven picks. Additionally, all five sleeper picks from our Tuesday Sleeper Report (coming off 50/1 or greater odds) made the cut including Lingmerth who finished with an impressive T12 after coming in with 100/1 Vegas odds.
Now with over $41 million in total season fantasy earnings, we are red hot heading into the final event before the FedExCup playoffs begin with The Barclays.
The Field
The headliner (despite his poor play) this week will be Tiger Woods and all will wonder whether or not he will finally find his game at such a crucial point in what has been his most disappointing season to date.
Adam Scott will be among the eight players ranked inside the Top 30 in OWRG and he needs to post a solid finish in order to hang around the next few rounds of the playoffs.
Veteran Davis Love III is a two-time Greensboro champion and will make his 21st start at this event but we’re not too confident about having him on our fantasy roster this week.
Final tee-times and pairings for this week’s Wyndham Championship will be posted here by Wednesday.
The Course
Sedgefield Country Club (Ross Course) measures in at 7,127 yards and will play as a par 70 this week. Sedgefield opened in 1925 and has played home to the Greater Greensboro Open since 1938—the event eventually became the Wyndham Championship. We’ll talk more course layout and how it relates to fantasy picks this week in our Fantasy Notes sections below.
This week’s track can certainly make for some exciting golf—remember the breakthrough victory for Patrick Reed over now World No. 1 Jordan Spieth? Here’s a look at the 10th hole which decided Reed’s victory in 2013:

Weather Forecast for Greensboro, NC
Prepare for a lot of wet weather from Tuesday through Friday at Sedgefield this week which should cut back a lot of practice rounds and even eat at some of rounds 1 and 2. Wind will not be factor this week but soft and wet fairways and greens will affect some things for sure.
The weekend however looks to be stellar in Greensboro with 85 degree temperatures and sunny skies. With the last chance for some of the aforementioned names to get into the playoffs, you can bet they will be prepared for any and all type of conditions out there.
Last Year’s Wyndham Championship Results
Camilo Villegas put together a clutch win here in 2014 which snapped a four-year win-less drought for the tough Colombian golfer. Villegas beat out names like nick Watney, Heath Slocum, and Freddie Jacobson and avoided a playoff to cruise into the victory circle.
With a final round scorecard that included four birdies and an eagle on the front nine, Villegas moved swiftly into contention and had to hope the charging three would falter, which they eventually all did. This win marked his fourth PGA TOUR win and first since the 2010 Honda Classic. Camilo hopes to make some noise at Sedgefield again this week to make it into the playoffs next week.
Here’s a recap of Villegas’ triumph at last year’s Wyndham Championship:

Where to Play Fantasy Golf for the Wyndham Championship this Week
With the last big $1 million event of the season is in the books and it is not yet clear if DraftKings is going to kick it up again for the FedExCup Playoffs. Either way, they have still been bumping the prizes up for the smaller games which is very exciting. The usual $3 Entry Drive The Green game has been given a boost from $100k to a bigger and better $400,000 prize pool. Here is some more info:
- DraftKings PGA $400 DRIVE THE GREEN ($100,000 TO FIRST): For 3 bucks per entry you can take a few cracks at this one for bonus chances to win the $100,000 top prize. The field is big but not as large as the big game last week. You can take that same $20 you spent last week and for one extra dollar you can play this one seven times with a few different rosters. We’ve done that several times and end up cashing in with multiple rosters almost every week.
This Week’s Wyndham Championship Fantasy Notes
Guys sitting on the playoff bubble usually kick up there game at this event with a last ditch effort to make the cut or move even further up the rankings to ensure a trip to Round 2 of the FedExCup playoffs. This week we’ll be looking at similar stats to last week’s methodology but won’t be taking the obvious choices.
Also, look out for any last minute withdrawals as some players with enough FedExCup points may opt to move on to the Barclays for some additional practice before the playoffs begin next week.
We’ll keep our premium members up-to-date on any injury or withdrawal news by Wednesday evening.

Top 5 Picks/Odds to Win the Wyndham Championship
- Brooks Koepka (Golficity Odds 8/1 FPPG: 80.91 GPFP: 89.00 Salary:$10,800): This guy has found his way on our picks board at least 10 times this season, and for good reason. Brooks is arguably one of the hottest players on TOUR with his huge drives and dialed-in short game. Koepka is coming into Sedgefield fresh off of a T5 at Whistling Straights where he recorded his was seventh straight top 25. Before that he had a T6 at Firestone and with the lighter field we’re thinking this could this be his week to breakthrough and grab that second win of his career—and season. Adam Scott may be the big name this week but we think Koepka the hottest player on the course this for sure.
- GIR Rank: 21st
- Driving Accuracy: 154th
- Putting Average: 52nd
- Driving Distance Rank: 7th
* Most Notable Stat: Strokes Gained Putting: 3rd
- Brandt Snedeker (Golficity Odds 10/1 FPPG: 69.81 GPFP: 55.85 Salary:$10,300): We typed Matsuyama’s name into the roster a hand full of times, deleted it, typed it again before finally committing to Brandt. The decision comes largely because Hideki can’t seem to close the door lately. Brandt on the other hand has course knowledge and is coming in off the heels of a T12 at the PGA. He won here in 2007 and has another three top 10s on this course including a T5 last year. Although Sneds has not made many waves so far this season his recent momentum along with this history here at Sedgefield makes him a solid addition to any roster.
- GIR Rank: 135th
- Driving Accuracy: 90th
- Putting Average: 19th
- Driving Distance Rank: 113th
* Most Notable Stat: Adjusted Scoring: 10th
- Justin Thomas (Golficity Odds 18/1 FPPG: 70.33 GPFP: 90.72 Salary:$9,400): Thomas is deadly with the putter and definitely trending in the right direction coming off a T18 at the PGA Championship. He made his TOUR debut here as amateur in 2009 where made the cut but finished T78. That score from six years ago doesn’t concern us though because Justin has become such a powerful player as if late. Keep in mind that JT has two top fives in his last three starts and should have no trouble competing against this week’s field.
- GIR Rank: 35th
- Driving Accuracy: 149th
- Putting Average: 7th
- Driving Distance Rank: 19th
* Most Notable Stat: All Around Ranking: 7th
- Harris English (Golficity Odds 28/1 FPPG: 63.04 GPFP: 68.72 Salary:$8,600): English is an excellent scrambler with decent putting but he has been streaky since his T2 in late June. Regardless, with seven Top 25s this season, there’s no question that he’s always in the hunt and putting up fantasy points every week. Harris doesn’t have the best stats on TOUR but we liked what we saw from his game last week at the PGA despite his 76 on Day 3. With a mid-range salary of just $8,600 we’re looking to catch lightning in a bottle from English this week.
- GIR Rank: 63th
- Driving Accuracy: 120th
- Putting Average: 75th
- Driving Distance Rank: 35th
* Most Notable Stat: 8 Consecutive Cuts Made (Ranks 6th on the PGA TOUR)
- Will Wilcox (Golficity Odds 35/1 FPPG: 68.14 GPFP: 67.46 Salary:$8,400): Wilcox may not be the biggest name in the field but he just keeps impressing us. His T10 at the Barracuda was his third Top 10 finish in his last four starts and he leads the TOUR in the all-around which is something defiantly noting. His putter can be his own worst enemy but he is deadly accurate from tee to green and hasn’t finished worse than T21 in his last four starts.
- GIR Rank: 4th
- Driving Accuracy: 14th
- Putting Average: 95th
- Driving Distance Rank: 52nd
* Most Notable Stat: Scoring Average: 6th
Sleeper Pick/Odds to Win the Wyndham Championship
- Austin Cook (Golficity Odds 48/1 FPPG: 79.44 GPFP: 85.79 Salary: $8,000): Here’s a no-namer that can boost your fantasy stats this week at a low price tag. Cook played in six PGA TOUR events this season and his resume looks like this: (T11, MC, T22, 6th, 7th, T22). This young gun knows how to score and is looking to make a name for himself on TOUR. It’s events like this that can produce a winner like Cook so we’re going to run with him in our mid $8K tier this week.

Salary Cap League Sleeper Pick/Odds to Win the Wyndham Championship
- Vaughn Taylor (Golficity Odds: 66/1 FPPG: 74.30 GPFP: 59.44 Salary:$6,700): The best thing about having a guy like Taylor on your fantasy team is that he makes cuts and puts up fantasy points (and isn’t that all we can ask for?). With a 74 FPPG, its a no-brainer adding him to a roster at this price tag to free up space for the big ticket players. This week’s Wyndham Championship will mark his ninth appearance this season and he comes in with six top 25s while ranking 25th in greens hit and seventh in birdies or better on TOUR.
