Fantasy Golf Sleeper Report – 2020 RSM Classic
The 2020 RSM Classic Fantasy Sleeper Report
For all the pre-event narratives, many missed the simple facts staring them in the face.
Dustin Johnson is the number one golfer in the world – not Bryson DeChambeau nor Rory McIlroy, and his record at Augusta National is so good that surely he was always going to be the most likely winner.
It’s easy to after-time or say ‘we told you so’, but the truth is that soft conditions were always going to aid DJ’s quest, and he was a much deserved winner after slipping in the green jacket supplied to him by Tiger Woods.
It will be different in April, of course, but faster conditions are not going to help Bryson if he’s having to hack his way out of the hedgerow.
There’s plenty of water to pass under the bridge until our next jaunt to Augusta, but we stay in Georgia all the same this week with the RSM Classic.
St Simons Island is something of a favourite with many on the PGA TOUR who have set up home there, and the easy going, laidback feel is matched by one of the easier tests around.
Fairways are narrow but can be missed without too much penalty, and the large Bermuda greens ensure this becomes something of a putting contest in the end.
We should mention that the event is played at two courses, with one of the opening rounds taken by the Plantation layout. This is tree-lined and so benefits from more cover from the wind, and as you might expect from a layout measuring barely 7,000 yards for its Par of 72, Plantation is there for the taking.
The Seaside course is more of a test. A more exposed, Links style test, when the wind whips up it can be a much tougher assignment with just two Par 5s on offer. Tom Fazio doesn’t mind sticking it to the players in his designs, and that is very much the case here.
And what about the prospects for the longs-odds hopes in the field? Well, how does this grab you: Mackenzie Hughes was a mighty 250/1 shot here in 2016 when he lifted the trophy, Austin Cook was 90/1 in 2017 and, even last year, Tyler Duncan was a bankroll boosting 150/1.
This year, we can also factor in the possibility of a Masters hangover for many in the field, and that will surely aid the quest of those at juicier prices to land themselves a bank-enhancing paycheck.
In that spirit, who has made our shortlist of sleeper picks for the RSM Classic 2020?

The 2020 RSM Classic Fantasy Sleeper Report
Brian Harman – 50/1 – We’ve been drafting Brian Harman in our DFS plays for a while now, and he keeps coming up with the goods – he’s made eleven straight cuts, with a top-40 at the U.S. Open and T24 at the Houston Open last time out.
But the left-hander needs to kick on to trouble the top of the leaderboard, and maybe that will come at an event where he has delivered two top-10s and a T14 in the past.
A solid putter who fares well on Bermuda, Harman’s precise approach can work very nicely at Sea Island.
Ian Poulter – 55/1 – He’s been playing well since the resumption of golf, and at a golf course ideally suited to his game Ian Poulter has to be on the radar this week.
Top 10s in the BMW PGA Championship and the Scottish Open, plus T12 at the CJ Cup, preceded an excellent T25 at Augusta, which shows that the Englishman’s form is travelling across borders and even in disparate conditions.
Comfortable in the wind and on the coast, Poulter will love it at Sea Island – a venue he has bizarrely only played at once before.
C.T. Pan – 70/1 – The sneakiest of sneaky top-10s at The Masters confirm that C.T. Pan is striking the ball nicely right now.
It was his best performance for a while, but the Chinaman will find himself in conditions he loves this week.
A former winner on the coast at the RBC Heritage and T11 at the Mayakoba Championship, Pan has a T6 and a T13 here as well and that shows how much he loves these short, wind-impacted tournaments.
Sam Burns – 80/1 – A genuine contender at the Houston Open, Sam Burns fell away from the top of the leaderboard on the Sunday.
But 80/1 represents huge value for a player who struck the ball beautifully there, and in a slightly weaker field this week he has to be on the shortlist.
Top 10s in the wind at the RBC Heritage and on the east coast in the Honda Classic suggest Burns can thrive at Sea Island.
Joel Dahmen – 100/1 – With stacks of top-10s on the PGA TOUR, we’re still waiting for Joel Dahmen to make his breakthrough into the winner’s enclosure.
If he is going to, Sea Island might be the place where he gets it done. Okay, so his form in this event is middling, but a player who thrives in the wind, on less-than-driver courses and on Bermuda should enjoy life here.
A return to form came at the ZOZO Championship (T8), and a player that tends to string good performances together has to be on the radar this week.
