Fantasy Golf Sleeper Report – 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship

2021 Sanderson Farms Championship Fantasy Sleeper Report
The Ryder Cup is always an exciting sideshow to mainstream golf, and it’s typically a hugely enjoyable few days of golf.
You get to see the best in the world in a team environment, and it becomes apparent who prospers and who thrives in the rarefied air of representing their country (or continent) in match play action.
Before a ball was hit the shrewdest of bettors were considering this American team to be one of the best they have fielded in years – from top to bottom, there really was no weakness for Steve Stricker, who had an embarrassment of riches to call upon.
In the end, USA were full value for their 19-9 victory – a record winning margin in the Ryder Cup incidentally, and the American players were clearly on cloud nine with their triumph.
That’s probably a good reason why none of them are teeing it up at the Sanderson Farms Championship this week – an event that has been hit hard by some rather cruel scheduling. Only Sergio Garcia of those involved at the Ryder Cup will compete in Jackson, Mississippi, and even that you suspect has more to do with the fact that he’s the defending champion than anything else.
The Spaniard might just be rubbing his hands together at the prospect of competing against this weak field, with Sam Burns, Will Zalatoris and Sungjae Im – the other market protagonists – not exactly dripping with PGA TOUR wins between them.
These events can be a career-maker for some, and the CC of Jackson will certainly hold no fears with its wide fairways, friendly rough and receptive, albeit pacey, Bermuda greens. With only a handful of bunkers on the real estate and water that shouldn’t really be in play for most, this is a layout that this there for the taking.
And it is routinely taken. Garcia went round in -19 last year, pipping Peter Malnati to the post by one stroke after birdieing the 72nd hole. Prior to that the likes of Sebastian Munoz (-18), Cameron Champ (-21) and Ryan Armour (-19) are all Sanderson Farm winners that have shown birdies are the order of the day in Jackson.
To make them, the general consensus is that length off the tee is an advantage – even if Armour’s presence on the rollcall of champions suggests otherwise, and it’s worth noting that there is some rain in the forecast for the first half of the week….softer conditions naturally favor the longer hitters.
Garcia chose the route of having the week from heaven with his irons, but for the most part it’s about knocking approaches to within 20ft as often as possible and then sinking those opportunities with the flat stick.
But who will do that more than anyone else this week? That’s the key, and in our Sanderson Farms Championship sleeper shortlist we’ve tried to identify those that stand a strong chance and at meaty sportsbook odds, too.

2021 Sanderson Farms Championship Fantasy Sleeper Report
Seamus Power – 50/1 – The Irishman hasn’t played a huge amount of golf since winning the Barbasol Championship, but that will have allowed the dust to settle on what was his maiden PGA TOUR triumph.
Rested and renewed, Seamus Power should help to Mississippi in good heart knowing that this is a golf course he can thrive at – two top-20s here already – in a weak field.
He studied in Tennessee and has a bank of form on birdie shootout courses in the South, and powerful enough to take full advantage of the Par 5s he will look to make his formula work once again in Jackson.
Sebastian Munoz – 50/1 – A missed cut at the Fortinet Championship last time out will have hurt Sebastian Munoz, who ended last season in fine form.
A whisker away from a bronze medal at the Olympics and T4 at the John Deere Classic, the Colombian showed up well in the FedEx Cup playoffs and so much is expected of him this week at a course he has won at before in 2019.
A supreme driver of the ball and a prolific birdie-maker, Munoz has all the tools to thrive at the Country Club of Jackson, and now he just needs to put them all together.
Carlos Ortiz – 55/1 – The second half of the 2020-21 season didn’t go according to plan for Carlos Ortiz, but time away will have surely helped his game.
Making it all the way to the BMW Championship last season was a decent effort for the Mexican, and that shows a marked improvement in his all-round game.
He has all of the tools required to thrive in Jackson, and his fondness for Bermuda greens could drive him on to a strong week.
Patton Kizzire – 66/1 – An excellent iron player, we’re always looking for improvement in Patton Kizzire’s putting before we consider him for our shortlists.
And that has come since the tailend of last season, with major improvements with the flat stick powering an improvement in form.
Clearly more at home on Bermuda greens too, the switch to his favored surface – combined with those aforementioned putting improvements – should hopefully lead to a strong week from the multi-time PGA TOUR winner.
Adam Schenk – 125/1 – It’s high time that Adam Schenk made the leap from consistent operator to genuine title challenger on the TOUR.
He makes stacks of cuts, but so often fails to translate those into something more exciting – of the 22 weekends he made last season, only six were converted to top-25s with just a pair of top-10s.
But the Indiana native certainly has the talent to do much better, and as a long, straight driver of the golf ball – and a strong, albeit inconsistent, putter – Schenk has the tools to perform at the Country Club of Jackson, where he finished T7 in 2018.
