Five Share the Lead Heading into Abu Dhabi’s Final Round
After an action packed day in Abu Dhabi, it is a five-way-tie for the lead heading into tomorrows final day of the HSBC Championship.
Branden Grace, Ian Poulter, Rickie Fowler, Joost Luiten and former world number one Rory McIlroy are all sharing top spot with 10-under par, some who still have to finish their round tomorrow as play was suspended due to darkness.
Englishman Andy Sullivan was the main leader throughout the day, until his last hole – the ninth – where his tee shot landed in a hazard and could not be found, resulting in him returning to the tee to take his third shot.
Because of this, Sullivan’s hole resulted in a triple bogey, dropping him down to tied sixth with -9, alongside previous winner Robert Rock, Henrick Stenson, Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Belgian Thomas Pieters.
Pieters had a very impressive round of seven under, with the only blemish on his card being a bogey on the 14th.
The Belgian’s round was cut short today, with him still having three holes to play tomorrow morning before starting the final round, which will see him chasing the top five in hope of winning his third European Tour event.
World number one Jordan Spieth is still in contention in tied 13th position at seven-under-par, after a bogey-free third round of 68.
With so many in the race for the top spot, it is sure that tomorrow is set to be a dramatic final day in the desert.
