Golfzon Debuts WAVE Launch Monitor & Simulator

Technology is frequently a popular sector at the PGA Show.  Manufacturers look to debut the new shot tracking, teaching sensors, or simulator/launch monitors in advance of the pre-Masters spike when many golfers often break out their clubs and start hitting the range or getting in some lessons in advance of the start of the golf season.

And this year, Golfzon—the world leader in golf simulator market share—is debuting the WAVE, its new portable launch monitor, and WAVE Play, a family-friendly home golf entertainment system.

Set to hit the market this summer, WAVE is a dual-device launch monitor system that accurately detects every shot from tee to flag, down to even the most delicate putts. The portable WAVE—which appears to be relatively the same size as an iPad can be used indoors or outdoors and tracks 26 ball flight parameters, all displayed and stored on the user’s mobile device with the Wave Skills app. Precision Infrared Technology in the putting mat provides precise feedback, a major differentiator in the category. WAVE also doubles as a simulator, providing a fun and entertaining experience for players of all levels with access to over 100 stunningly realistic virtual renderings of world-class courses like St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, Kiawah Island, and many more.

Golfzon has not published a complete list of the data points the WAVE capture, but marketing materials suggest that WAVE will be able to provide users with:  Total Distance; Carry Distance; Ball Speed; Club Speed; Launch Angle; SMASH Factor; Spin Rates (Spin Axis, Back Spin, Side Spin); Club Path; Face Angle; Face to Path; Attack Angle; Dynamic Loft; and Landing Angle.  Marketing materials also allude to Swing Plane and Swing Direction as “Coming Soon” data points.

I place emphasis on the club data because those are data points that are often reserved for more expensive ($10,000+) launch monitors, like the Trackman or Foresight GCQuad, but provide invaluable data to golfers and can help identify fine-tune their swings, fixes, shot shapes, etc.  Indeed, the least expensive monitor that currently offers similar club data is the Foresight Mevo+ with their Pro Package add-on.  Conversely, Bushnell’s Launch Pro—a more expensive camera launch monitor—only offers Club Path and Angle of Attack—meaning no Face Angle, Face to Path, Face to Target, or Dynamic Loft—with their Gold Software package.

In light of this, if Golfzon can price the WAVE for low/mid $3,000—slightly above the Foresight Mevo+ Pro (currently $2,550.00) and Bushnell Launch Pro (currently $4,000 without any add-on on software)—it will be a serious contender for the consumer launch monitor, especially given its established history as a developer of the top simulator experience.

For a more relaxed, fun experience, WAVE Play is a family-friendly home golf entertainment system that represents a revolutionary, simple and inexpensive way to create an immersive golf simulator experience almost anywhere – without any golf equipment. Users simply connect the WAVE Play Club to their Android or iOS devices with the Vision WAVE app installed.

The provided club is designed to mimic the feeling of hitting a golf ball, thanks to the built-in Magnetic Impact Ball that slides along the shaft as players swing. Golfzon’s gyro sensor technology tracks club path and provides realistic performance feedback. Up to six golfers at a time can play a full round on more than 100 simulated golf courses.

Tommy Lim, Golfzon America CEO, said:

“Technology is in the DNA of the Golfzon brand and with WAVE and WAVE Play we’re able to share this technology with a broader audience. Both were developed to deliver attainable, high-quality and innovative solutions for all types of golfers.”

Both WAVE and WAVE Play will be available for pre-order later this Spring.
