Henrik Stenson Rib Injured in Promotional Stunt
Way back at the WGC-HSBC Champions event, Stenson was part of an interesting little photoshoot that was used to promote the event. Along with Dustin Johnson and Haotong Li, Stenson was suspended by wires over the top of the number one Japanese golfer on the PGA TOUR, Hideki Matsuyama. The picture looks about as crazy as it sounds.
But after participating in this photoshoot, Stenson alluded to the fact that he may have injured his rib. Now it has been reported that Stenson’s rib injury was caused by the suspension harness used in the promo shoot.
While it isn’t believed to be a long-term injury, Stenson will miss the final two events of the European Tour season, the Nedbank Challenge in Sun City and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
What caused Henrik Stenson's season-ending injury? Let's just say he's not Superman: https://t.co/WCkedynBpg pic.twitter.com/or0C69rdps

Stenson started speculation Monday by saying, “I’m no superman even though certain people thought I was superman. If you saw the promotion in Shanghai, you know what I mean.” But Stenson clarified that comment on Instagram stating, “My comment about not being Superman was a sarcastic way of saying that I am susceptible to injury like any other athlete and sometimes these things happen when you least expect them.”
Regardless of how the injury occurred, it didn’t seem to have a strong effect on Stenson in his following events. Following that photoshoot, Stenson was still able to participate in the HSBC Champions and Turkish Airlines Open and didn’t show any signs of hampered play. But now, the injury has already forced him to miss the Nedbank Challenge but contrary to earlier reports, he hopes to be out there for the DP World Tour Championship to end his season.
So while Stenson’s promotional photo shoot with Johnson, Li, and Matsuyama produced a pretty cool picture, Stenson may want to consider sitting out or using a stunt double next time since, like he said, he’s not superman.
