Home Owners Near Augusta Offered Millions By Club… They Keep Refusing

Remember that heartwarming Disney movie “Up”?

The one about the older man who refused to sell his home while the surrounding neighborhood was getting developed.

 

Well, this is the gold version of that. Augusta National has spent 80 years growing and developing the land in and around their club.

Buying surrounding homes so they could bulldoze them down so they could expand amenities and tee boxes.

They have had a successful time doing this. The only exception is the Thacker family. They built their home back in 1959, and it’s now worth an estimated $330,000.

That’s not what Augusta is offering. According to frontofficesports.com, they have turned down seven figures to sell their home to the club!

So why not this house? “We really don’t want to go,” Elizabeth Thacker said in an interview given to nj.com. Her husband Herman added, “Money ain’t everything.”

The couple has celebrated 60 wedding anniversaries, and they are just happy. One day Augusta will likely get what they are after, but for now, they will have to accept that money can’t buy everything.
