Honda Classic to Remain at PGA National

Starting Thursday, the Honda Classic will be underway from PGA National for the tenth straight year.  And after a deal was reached today, the Honda Classic won’t be going anywhere else for a long time.

It was announced that the hosts of the Honda Classic, Children’s Healthcare Charity, reached a deal with PGA National to keep the tournament on the Champions Course for the next five years.  That means that there will be professional golf at PGA National until at least 2021.

There were many factors that helped keep the long-time tournament at PGA National but none bigger than the fact that attendance at the event has gone from 100,000 fans up to over 200,000 fans last year.  On top of that, charitable donations provided by the event have multiplied by seven and a half since 2007.

This decision is one that is popular with players participating in the tournament this weekend.  Rickie Fowler, one of the ten, top-20 golfers playing at PGA National this week, stated his gratitude with being able to continue playing there because it is one of the toughest tests of the year for him.

Not only was this good for business and for players, it is also a huge victory for golf fans in South Florida.  This season, the Honda Classic will be the only PGA TOUR event played in South Florida for the entire season, the first time that has happened since 1970.  So with this extension, at least one golf event in this part of the state will be ensured for the next five years.

Now that the business end of the tournament has been taken care of, fans can sit back and relax while watching who will take the 2017 Honda Classic Championship.
