Earlier this year, Honma Golf released the TR20 product line, Honma’s first-ever North American-led product line, a collaboration between its Sakata, Japan-based takumi (craftsmen) and the brand’s team of U.S. engineers that delivers golfers the best of two masterfully talented worlds.

The TR20 Drivers (available in 440 and 460 cc head sizes) were both particularly noteworthy, with both drivers featuring a unique full carbon clamshell body on a fast titanium frame.

Indeed, Honma President John Kawaja noted that the “TR20 is our 2020 ‘Tour Release’ line and while these drivers are designed to perform exceptionally for the game’s most elite players, amateurs stand to gain the most, in terms of speed, feel and distance.”

And true to Kawaja’s statements, the TR20 recently helped South African-born Albert Pistorius secure his first-career win at on the MacKenzie Tour’s Canada Life Series.

To explain, Honma TR20 460 driver with a Made-in-Sakata, Japan Honma Vizard 75 X shaft was in the bag at TPC Toronto: Heathlands Course, where Pistorius conquered high winds and a stacked leaderboard to secure a final-round, one-under-par 70 to claim his first professional victory by a single shot. With the help of the TR20 460 driver, Pistorius rode an eagle-par-birdie start in the final round and fought hard in the difficult conditions to outlast Andrew J. Funk, Callum Davison and Yi Cao by a single shot.

The win was especially sweet for Pistorius, who first turned pro in 2005. After taking a break from the game in 2013, Pistorius spent the past few years as a teaching professional at Calgary, Alberta’s Pinebrook Golf and Country Club, which ultimately inspired him to give competitive golf another shot at the start of the 2019 season. As you already know, it turned out to be the right decision as Pistorius now sits in the second position on The MacKenzie Tour’s Canada Life Series Points List with one event left to play. And hopefully Pistorius can keep his foot on the gas, as the winner of that four-tournament series earns a playing spot in the PGA TOUR’s 2021 RBC Canadian Open.

“Congratulations to Albert Pistorius on what we believe will be the first of many professional wins,” says Honma General Manager Chris McGinley. “Albert’s victory with the TR20 460 driver validates the exceptional speed, control and overall performance of Honma equipment and our commitment to combine modern performance with beautiful craftsmanship to help golfers compete at the game’s highest level, lower their handicap, or just play better in their weekly game.”

Honma’s holistic design process includes a precisely-oriented shaft spine for impact repeatability. Made-in-Japan Sakata VIZARD shafts are a premium upgrade that comes standard in every Honma driver, providing a superior overall club.
